Galvantula is an electric spider-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It is the evolved form of Joltik.

Information

Galvantula evolves from Joltik at Level 39. They have the special ability to spit out electrically charged threads, and they can use these threads to form special electric barriers when attacked. Galvantula also used these electrically charged webs to trap their prey. The web immobilizes said prey with shock, at which point the Galvantula is free to consume it.

• In the Pokémon anime, Galvantula were featured as antagonists in one episode where they attacked Ash's newly born Scraggy, but in the end all of Ash's Pokémon were able to work together to drive them away.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Galvantula was featured early in the Black/White arc, where one was secretly sabotaging an area where the BW Agency was shooting a commercial. Black was able to use his Munna to find the Galvantula out and caught it after a battle. It was later revealed that Galvantula's hostility was due to it being a Pokémon that a trainer released after hearing one of Team Plasma's speeches.

• Its name is a combination of "galvanization" (a type of electrochemical process) with "tarantula".
