Corphish is a lobster-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. Its evolved form is Crawdaunt.
Information[edit]
Corphish is a hardy Pokémon that can survive in any environment. It was originally a foreign Pokémon that was imported, but some escaped and wound up reproducing in the wild. It uses its sharp claw to catch prey and will never release it. Corphish has no likes or dislikes when it comes to food and will eat anything. It can thrive even in filthy streams with no problem.
Corphish evolves into Crawdaunt at Level 30.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Corphish could be commonly fished with the Super Rod at Routes 102 and 117 and Petalburg City. In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it was commonly fished with the Super Rod at Celestic Town. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear when fishing with the Super Rod at the Safari Zone's Rocky Beach and Wetland areas if enough Water objects were present. In Black and White|White, it appeared at White Forest when surfing.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it appeared at the Lake in the Sapphire Field. In Pokémon Trozei!, it could be found at Secret Storage 2, Huge Storage 3, Endless Level 4 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the sixth through twelfth floors of Waterfall Pond. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at the Waterworks. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, they were recruitable at Lake Afar, and a non-playable one appeared as a member of the Wigglytuff Guild. Corphish also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Beach Zone and the Meeting Place.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Corphish was first shown in an episode of the Hoenn series where one attacked Ash's group after he accidentally got one with his fishing rod. Several episodes later, Ash caught his own Corphish that had been attacking the group from the sand. It was an impulsive fighter and easily became jealous of other Pokémon, but it was still a useful fighter that played roles in most of Ash's gym battles as well as the Ever Grande Conference. One episode also featured Corphish developing an unrequited crush on a Mawile and performing a song with Brock. Between the Hoenn and Battle Frontier series, Ash left Corphish at Pallet Town, where it befriended Kingler. He still used Corphish for several Battle Frontier battles, and it also made an appearance near the end of the Sinnoh series despite not being used at the Lily of the Valley Conference.
- In the Pokémon Adventure manga, Corphish have primarily made minor appearances belonging to members of Team Aqua during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a play on "crayfish" (a species that it resembles) possibly combined with "corp" or "corporal" (referring to military terms).
- Spin-off games show depict Corphish with the catchphrase of "Hey, hey!" or have it start its sentences with the word. This seems to be a pun referring to its Japanese name, Heigari.
