The Tri Force Heroes is a group of legendary heroes that act as the titular protagonists of The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes.

Background[edit]

The Tri Force Heroes were associated with Hytopia's legend. It was implied that there was at least one past incarnation of the Tri Force Heroes. Nothing specific was stated about their exploits, but the legend associated with them stated that they could bring everlasting peace and style to the kingdom of Hytopia by completing all challenges. The three of them were associated with specific physical features: pointy ears, "truly epic" sideburns and side-parted hair. In battle, they were known to stack up on each others' shoulders to assume a formation known as a totem. A statue of them in Hytopia's town showed that they looked and dressed similarly to Link, and it is possible that any of the original heroes were an incarnation of Link.

During the events of Tri Force Heroes, Princess Styla had fallen victim to a curse cast by Lady Maud and was stuck wearing a set of cursed tights that were considered ugly by the populace. King Tuft put out a call for people matching the physical attributes of the Tri Force Heroes to step forth and act as Hytopia's new Tri Force Heroes, in order to explore The Drablands and seek a way to cure Styla. Three heroes were needed to activate and operate the Triforce Gateways that teleported people to and throughout different area of The Drablands. Eventually, a boy named Link came to Hytopia and was recognized as a potential Tri Force Hero by Sir Comsbly. Sir Combsly gave him the Hero's Tunic to reflect this. Link proceeded to work with two others as the Tri Force Heroes. In any of the multiplayer modes, Link worked with two other boys who looked similar to him. In single player mode, Link instead worked with two Doppels that were brought to life. Link could switch bodies with either of the Doppels to control their movements.

The Tri Force Heroes traveled throughout The Drablands and completed the various challenges there while facing off with Lady Maud's monsters. Throughout their journey, they also assembled the three materials needed to make The Lady's Ensemble, with the last piece having been acquired upon the defeat of Lady Maud at the Sky Temple. With the power of The Lady's Ensemble, Link was able to undo the curse placed upon Princess Styla, and King Tuft recognized him as a true Tri Force Hero. Afterwards, Link was able to continue exploring the Drablands as part of the Tri Force Heroes and to take on more challenges.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there are several homages to the Tri Force Heroes. In Toon Link's Classic Mode route, "The Teamwork of Courage", he has two extra Toon Links (wearing the colors of the extra players in Tri Force Heres) acting as his allies for every battle. There is also an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit of the three heroes known as Totem Link. When fought in a Spirit battle, the Totem Link's Spirit would possess three copies of Toon Link wearing the same colors as the three Tri Force Heroes. Three Toon Links in those colors also appeared as back-up in the Spirit battle for Madam Couture's Spirit.

Trivia[edit]

  • When part of a group of Tri Force Heroes, each character's hair and tunic becomes either green, red or blue, depending on which player number they are assigned. Link's hair is instead blonde and his tunic green whenever he is in Hytopia.
  • In Japan, the group is known as the Triforce Musketeers, in reference to the fictional group from classic literature known as the Three Musketeers.
