Regigigas is a gargantuan legendary Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It acts as the leader and creator of a trio of legendary Pokémon from the third generation which consists of Regirock, Regice and Registeel. Although it is possible to obtain it normally within the games, it is also distributed at Pokémon events.

Information[edit]

Regigigas is a large and powerful Pokémon. One legend associated with it claims that it used to tow continents using ropes. Regigigas made three different types of Pokémon as smaller versions of itself. Regirock, Regice and Registeel were made from clay/rocks, Arctic ice/a special ice mountain and magma respectively. Regigigas seems to have some power over them and may also be connected to the ancient civilization (seen in Hoenn) that originally sealed the three Regis away. They did specifically state that the sealing occurred because they feared "it", which sounds like it would refer to Regigigas instead of the other three Pokémon.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, Regigigas slumbered at the bottom of Snowpoint Temple and would only wake if the player had all three of the other Regis in their party. The Regis had to be transferred from the third generation or caught in Platinum, although to make them appear in Platinum, the player ironically would need to have an event Regigigas.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Regigigas was a statue that could come to life and be battled in the Aegis Cave, and it could then be recruited. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was game's final challenge and could be found in a hidden room of the Hippowdon Temple only after the Browser was full and all quests were completed. The three Regis had to be brought to pedestals to summon Regigigas for battle, and Regigigas could not be captured, although it could be battled multiple times. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Sky Fortress and Rand's House. Regigigas also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at the Bright Beach.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Regigigas appeared as an Ace-rank Support Spirit that granted the Slow Super Armor ability. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Regigigas's Spirit would possess a giant R.O.B., in a stamina battle where its attack power and move speed would eventually increase.

In Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Regigigas was first featured in the eleventh movie where its slumber in an ancient temple was disturbed by the actions of the antagonist, Zero, and it later helped Dawn's Pokémon to hold back a glacier with a swarm of Mamoswine. Regigigas was also featured in an episode of the Sinnoh series where Pokémon Hunter J tried to capture the one at Snowpoint Temple. Ash's group as well as Brandon and his Regis helped to protect it. At the end, Regigigas restored Brandon and the Regis when they had been petrified, and it returned to its slumber in the temple. Brandon also left his three Regis behind to protect it. It has also made some minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Regigigas appeared during the Diamond/Pearl arc where it initially came from Snowpoint Temple and saved Platina, Candice and Maylene from a blizzard following their defeat at Jupiter's hands. Regigigas later entered one of Platina's Poké Balls and emerged at Spear Pillar in the climax. It chose to work with Diamond in fighting off Dialga and Palkia to lessen the time-space distortions they were causing. Diamond kept it after the battle, but it refused to emerge from its Poké Ball.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of a play on "regius" (which is Latin for "royal") with "giga" (which means "giant").
