Milotic is a special dragon Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It evolves from Feebas under particularly special conditions.

Information[edit]

Milotic evolves from Feebas when it is leveled up with high Beauty. Starting in the fifth generation games, the evolution could be triggered through the easier method of trading a Feebas that is holding a Prism Scale. Milotic is an elegant serpent-like Pokémon that is hailed as the most beautiful Pokémon. It has the power to suppress anger and hostility in order to stop fights. When Milotic's body glows pink, it releases a pulsing wave of energy that can calm restless spirits. It is said to live at the bottom of large lakes (actually rising up to calm violent hearts) and has been depicted in many paintings and statues. Its scales are described as rainbow colored and actually change color depending on the viewing angle.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In most games from the third generation onwards, Milotic can only be obtained through evolution of Feebas. In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Milotic could be rarely fished in rippling water at Route 1.

Other Games[edit]

Milotic appears in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire as well as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, and in both games it could only be obtained through evolution. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appears at Endless Level 71, Forever Level 21, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it can rarely be found on the first twenty-four basement floors of Lake Afar.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Milotic occasionally makes background appearances in the Unova Pokémon League stage seen in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It has no effect on the gameplay. Milotic has also been represented by a trophy in the 3DS game and an Advanced-rank Support Spirit (which boosts attack and speed when undamaged) in Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Milotic's Spirit would possess Mewtwo for a timed battle in which it had heightened defense and would shield itself frequently.

Other Media[edit]

  • Milotic have been seen in episodes of the Pokémon anime from the Hoenn series onwards, in the ownership of trainers such as Robert, Juan, Lucy, Wallace and Palmer.
  • Near the end of the Ruby/Sapphire arc of the Pokémon Adventures manga, Ruby's Feebas (which he had driven off and called ugly) evolved into a Milotic after he had acknowledged its inner beauty by giving it the Hyper Rank ribbon, and it remained on Ruby's team as one of his main Pokémon. Throughout the arc Ruby had been seeking Milotic because of how beautiful it was (and perfect for the Pokémon Contests he loved), which adds a subtext of irony to his treatment of Feebas.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name may be a play on "melodic" and "Milo", as in the renowned artwork "Venus de Milo", which is seen as beautiful in its own way.
  • It acts as a third generation counterpart to Gyarados and has been noted to possibly be seen as a Contest version of Gyarados.
