Feebas is a Water-type Pokémon resembling Magikarp that was introduced in the third generation games. It is known for being possibly the most difficult Pokémon to find in the wild, as well as the unique conditions needed for it to evolve.

Information

Feebas is a Pokémon that is capable of living in both in the sea and in rivers because of its hardy life force, despite its body being in tatters. However, Feebas usually prefer habitats of ponds that are filled with weeds. Feebas can even live in polluted lakes and streams, as it can apparently eat anything and survive on little water. Despite being populous, Feebas are known to usually cluster in set locations. Its fins are ragged and tattered from the beginning of its life, which leads to this Pokémon being largely ignored by trainers and researchers alike.

However, few seem to known that Feebas, known as one of the ugliest Pokémon, is capable of evolving into a Milotic, which is known for its beauty. Feebas will evolve when it is leveled up after its Beauty stat is maxed out. This can be reached by blending and feeding certain Pokéblocks to the Feebas, most usually with Feebas of a Modest, Mild, Rash or Quiet nature. A more simplistic alternate method was introduced in the fifth generation: evolution was triggered by trading a Feebas that was holding a Prism Scale.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Feebas can be found by fishing with a Super Rod on Route 119. However, Feebas can only be found in six of the many blcoks of water within a route (although Feebas will commonly appear in those six blocks). These blocks are random for each game and will change every time the player changes the Trendy Phrase at Dewford Town.

In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, Feebas is found in the lake within Mt. Coronet's foggy basement level. However, they are even harder to obtain in this game as they are only found in three of the hundreds of blocks of water in the lake by fishing with the Super Rod, and the three random tiles in which they are found change on a daily basis (although Feebas will still commonly appear in those three tiles). In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they can be transferred from the Pokéwalker, in which they are found at the Quiet Cave course. In Black and White, it could be found by fishing at Route 1, being rare at normal times but common when fishing in rustling water.

Other Games

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Feebas can be found on the Lake while playing in the Sapphire Field. In Pokémon Trozei! it is found in Secret Stroage 15, Endless Level 17, Forever Level 13 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, it is found on the sixteenth through nineteenth floors of the Waterfall Pond, while in Blue Rescue Team, a rescue mission in Thunderwave Cave that is unlocked through a Wonder Mail code must be completed first. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Feebas are found on the first twenty-four basement levels of Lake Afar.

• Feebas have made occasional appearances in the Pokémon anime. One episode had Team Rocket being sold a Feebas by the Magikarp salesman, but it was actually a repainted Magikarp. An episode of the Sinnoh series also featured a Feebas that was known for being particularly beautiful.
• Feebas appears in the Pokémon Adventures manga with an important role. Ruby continuously gets on while fishing and keeps trying to throw it back, shunning it because of its ugliness. But after he learns of its value and it comes to protect him and his Swimmer friend, Ruby decides to keep it because he believes it will be a challenge to his Coordinator skills to use such an ugly Pokémon in contests, although he remains constantly ashamed of it. Eventually at a Slateport contest Feebas fails because Wallace had ordered the judges to do so in order to prove a point to Ruby, but this caused him to completely reject his Feebas, so that it retreated. Ruby felt bad about this and tried to retrieve it, but could not find his Feebas. It resurfaces during the final battles, where Archie and Maxie mock and beat it for its ugliness, but Ruby stands up for it and gives it the Hyper Rank ribbon that Wallace had given him for his Feebas afterwards, at which point it instantly evolved into a Milotic (which ironically was the Pokémon Ruby had sought for his entire adventure).

Trivia

• Its name is a play on a combination of "feeble" (due to its perceived weakness) and "bass" (a fish that it resembles).
• Feebas shares a number of similarities with Magikarp. Aside from physical resemblances, it has a similar moveset (although it can learn TMs and HMs, egg moves and tutored moves, unlike Magikarp), and its evolution's symbolic purpose seems to mirrors Magikarp's, as Magikarp evolves from one of the weakest and most useless Pokémon into the very powerful Gyarados, while Feebas evolves from the ugliest and most overlooked Pokémon into the beautiful Milotic.
