Debut Pokémon Sun/Moon

Plumeria is a Pokémon trainer who appears as an antagonist in the seventh generation games of the Pokémon series: Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. She serves under Guzma as an Admin of Team Skull and specializes in Poison-type Pokémon.

Background

Not much was known of Plumeria's past, although Team Skull was generally known to made up mostly of trainers who failed the Alola region's island challenge. Plumeria was stronger than most of Team Skull and became its only known Admin serving under Guzma, to whom she had a loyal devotion. She also had keen insights into Guzma's mind, such as suspecting what drew him to work for Lusamine. Plumeria saw the rest of Team Skull as being "dummies" and "numbskulls" in an affectionate matter, as she found their alleged dumbness to be cute and took pride in acting as their protective big sister. Plumeria seemed to have her own room in the Shady House at Po Town, which acted as Team Skull's main base, but she also lived in a trailer on Route 13.

During the events of the seventh generation games, she first appeared at the Akala Outskirts, where she berated Elio/Selene for defeating her "cute, dumb brothers and sisters" and took them on in a battle. After being defeated, she admitted that the young trainer was pretty strong, but she threatened to get serious if they messed with Team Skull again. Plumeria later led some Team Skull grunts in attacking the trainers of the Aether House at Route 15 of Ula'ula Island while Elio/Selene was off with Acerola taking on her trial. They managed to return while Team Skull was still there, and Elio/Selene defeated Plumeria again. However, Team Skull had succeeded in stealing a Yungoos from one of the children at the Aether House, and she told Elio/Selene to come to Po Town alone to face Guzma to rescue it. This turned out to be a diversion, as while everyone was focused on the Yungoos, Plumeria returned to the Aether House in order to take Lillie's Cosmog for Lusamine under Guzma's orders. Plumeria accused Lillie of taking part in thievery as well, and Lillie surrendered herself along with her Cosmog, who were then brought to the Aether Foundation.

Afterwards, the following events resulted in Guzma spending some time in Ultra Space. Plumeria worried for him and came to regret her actions. She confronted Elio/Selene and Lillie by the Ancient Poni Path, where she admitted to her mistakes and gave them insight into Guzma's motivations. Plumeria implored them to save Guzma and gave Elio/Selene the Poison-type Z-Crystal, Poisonium Z. She then noted that Elio/Selene's Z-Ring came directly from Tapu Koko and warned them that the wrath of a tapu would be brought down on them if they forget the importance of their Pokémon. Guzma ultimately returned and disbanded Team Skull in the game's ending. Afterwards, Nanu and Molayne convinced Plumeria to start over as a Pokémon trainer. Now using a Z-Ring, she took on the Pokémon League and could appear as a Title Defense challenger for the standing champion of the Alola region, Elio/Selene. Plumeria could also appear as either a partner or opponent at the Battle Tree in Sun and Ultra Sun.

Pokémon Roster

  • Golbat/Crobat: It evolves into a Crobat before the Title Defense matches.
  • Salandit/Salazzle: It evolves into a Salazzle before the second battle. It uses Poisonium Z during Title Defense battles.
  • Gengar: Title Defense battles only.
  • Alolan Muk: Title Defense battles only.
  • Toxapex: Title Defense battles only.

At the Battle Tree, Plumeria will fight with a team of two Pokémon for Multi Battles, three for Single Battles or four for Double Battles, with the specific Pokémon being randomly selected from a pool of Pokémon that includes all of the Pokémon from her Title Defense team with the exception of a Lurantis being part of the pool instead of the Muk. The only Z-Crystal that could be used at the Battle Tree would be her Gengar possibly using Gengarite.

In Other Pokémon Games

In Pokémon Masters EX, Plumeria and her Salazzle appeared together as a playable sync pair that could be unlocked at random through the game's Sync Pair Scout feature after being added to the game in March 2020. Plumeria appeared in the "Team Skull Crash Course" Story Event, where she berated Guzma for battling a child and later encouraged him to give her lessons. She also convinced Scottie/Bettie to team up with her and Guzma in a battle against Drake. She also appeared in the Guzma's Battle Prep part of the "Poké War Games" Costume Event, in which she trained with Plumeria and teased him for knowing so little about his own Pokémon. She also made an appearance during the "Of Beauty and Grace" Solo Event, in which Shauna and Flannery were looking for advice on how to grow up to be cool adults. Plumeria was grouped with the "dark and edgy" adults (which also included Karen and Lucy), and Plumeria stressed the importance of strength as her advice.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • Plumeria appeared as an antagonist during the Sun/Moon arc of the Pokémon Adventures manga. She attacked Gladion to test him, and although he managed to win, she was annoyed by his attitude and refused to accept him as a member of Team Skull. She then stood by Guzma's side when he summoned Ultra Beasts to attack Hau and the Trial Captains, but the Ultra Beasts went out of control, with Plumeria being knocked out by a Xurkitree and Guzma abducted by a Nihilego. Desperate to save Guzma, she turned to Faba, who offered to help her save Guzma if she helped him take over the Aether Foundation. Faba's orders ultimately led Plumeria to attempt to assassinate Lusamine with poison arrows at Mt. Lanakila while disguised as Moon, but her attempt was foiled by Lillie, Sina and Dexio.
  • In the Pokémon anime, Plumeria made several appearances with Guzma late into the Sun/Moon-based series. She gave Ash Ketchum an offer to join the Team Skull and later participated in the Manalo Conference. She lost in the preliminary round against [[Ilima], but she accomplished her goal of injuring his Eevee. She was shown to consistently support Guzma, even after her lost the Manalo Conference and disbanded Team Skull.

Trivia
