Crobat is a speedy, four-winged bat Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It acted as the new evolved form of Golbat from the first generation games, which makes it the third and final form of Zubat's evolutionary line.
Information[edit]
Crobat evolves from a Golbat that levels up with a high amount of happiness. This form develops two extra wings on its legs which make it faster and more silently, but at the same time this impairs Crobat by making it more difficult to stop and rest. When flying long distances, Crobat will usually use only one pair of wings at a time and switch when that set becomes tired. It can fly all day without having to stop through this method.
Its silent wings make it easy for Crobat to sneak up on their prey. However, they are also clumsy walkers. Crobat usually rest by hanging on a tree branch with its rear legs. Like most bats and bat-like Pokémon, it becomes active during the night.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
Crobat can primarily be obtained through evolution in most games. The exception is Pokémon: Black and White Versions, where Crobat has a rare chance in appearing in shaking grass at Route 13 and the Giant Chasm's entrance.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Stadium 2, Crobat could be used as a playable character in the "Gutsy Golbat" minigame by players who had a Gold/Silver/Crystal game pak connected. It is also featured as Koga's Pokémon in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire as well as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be obtained by evolving Golbat. In Pokémon Channel, Crobat appeared outside the Ruins of Truth in the evening. In Pokémon Channel, it was only found at Secret Storage 4 and Mr. Who's Den.
In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at Panula Cave. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Space and Darkness, it could be recruited at Aegis Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Altru Building. It also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, where it could be found at Sky Fortress, Rand's House and Dark Temple. In Pokémon Rumble Blast, it was found in the cave at Everspring Valley.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Brock's Golbat evolved into a Crobat partway through the Johto series. It was used irregularly, and Brock later passed it on to his younger brother Forrest with his other old Pokémon prior to the Hoenn series. Other Crobat have since made only a few minor appearances, such as being used by the henchmen of Hunter J during the Sinnoh series.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Crobat was first shown as one of Janine's Pokémon in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc. One chapter within the same arc also had Misty, Brock and Erika being attacked by a swarm of all three of the bat Pokémon at Tohjo Falls. During the FireRed/LeafGreen arc, Crobat was shown as one of Giovanni's Pokémon.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name seems to be a combination of "cross" (referring to its shape) or the Japanese word "kuro" (which means "black") with "bat".
- A trophy of Crobat appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
