Geodude is a floating rock Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. It is the first in a three-stage evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being Graveler and Golem.

Information

Geodude is a Pokémon that basically resembles a rock with arms. They are commonly found in fields and mountains, and they are indistinguishable from normal boulders. Many Geodude are usually present in one area at a time. Many people mistake them for boulders and step on them, which will enrage the Geodude to attacking with its fists. They use their arms primarily to climb steep mountain paths, when they want to sleep they bury themselves halfway in the ground, and in the morning they roll downhill in search of food.

They are proud of their sturdy bodies and have been known to bash against each other as a contest to see which has the sturdier body. A Geodude becomes more rounded in appearance as it grows older due to its edges being chipped and worn away. However, they are said to always retain a heart that is "hard, craggy and rough". Its round form actually makes it easy to pick up, and Geodude have even been thrown by people in snowball fights. It evolves into Graveler at Level 25.

In Pokémon: Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed and LeafGreen, Geodude could be found at Mt. Moon, Rock Tunnel and Victory Road. In FireRed/LeafGreen, they also appeared at Cerulean Cave, One Island and Seven Island.

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Geodude were found at Routes 45 and 46, Mt. Mortar, Union Cave, Mt. Moon and Rock Tunnel, and in HeartGold/SoulSilver they additionally appeared at Dark Cave, Ruins of Alph, Cliff Cave and Cerulean Cave. When using the Pokéwalker, Geodude could be caught at Rugged Road, Volcano Path and Night Sky's Edge.

In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Geodude appeared at Routes 111 and 114, Granite Cave, Safari Zone and Victory Road, as well as Magma Hideout in Emerald. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Geodude could be found in Routes 206, 207, 210, 214 and 215 (Diamond/Pearl only), Oreburgh Gate, Oreburgh Mine, Ruin Maniac Cave/Tunnel, Mt. Coronet, Iron Island, Valor Lakefront, Wayward Cave and Stark Mountain.

Other Games

Geodude appeared in Pokémon Snap, where it could be photographed at the Valley. In Pokémon Pinball, it was caught at Mt. Moon, Rock Mountain and Indigo Plateau. Geodude is also one of Brock's three Pokémon in Pokémon Puzzle League. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire it could be found at Wilderness in Sapphire Field. It also appeared in Pokémon Trozei! at the Phobos Drill, Endless Level 24, Forever Level 24 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Channel, Geodude appeared in Viridian Forest on cloudy mornings.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Geodude could be recruited at the fifth through eighth floors of Mt. Steel, the sixteenth through twentieth floors of Buried Relic, the twelfth through fifteenth floors of Wish Cave and the first six floors of Southern Cavern. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, they were found on the first nine floors of Mt. Bristle. Geodude could be caught at Krokka Tunnel in Pokémon Ranger. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, they were found at Marine Cave and Peril Cliffs. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, they appeared at Rasp Cavern and Fire Temple.

Geodude also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Rocky Cave. In PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, one could be befriended at Cavern Zone. In Pokémon Rumble Blast, it was found at the Desolated Ruins.

Video Games

• In the Super Smash Bros. series, a float of Geodude was among the floats appearing in the Poké Floats stage of Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Geodude also appeared in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Novice-rank Primary Spirit (which came with a water weakness). When fought against in a Spirit battle, the Geodude's Spirit would possess four monochrome copies of Kirby and focus on using Kirby's Rock attack.

Other Media

• In the Pokémon anime, Geodude was initially featured as one of Brock's primary Pokémon. It never evolved during the time he owned it, and he later passed it on to his brother Forrest before the journey in Hoenn began. Other gym leaders who have used Geodude in gym battles include Roxanne and Roark, as well as Orange Islands gym leader Danny. Another episode showed Geodude and its family as subjects of a King Onix.
• Geodude made mostly cameo appearances near Brock in the Pokémon Adventures manga. During the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc, Brock was shown to have eight Geodude which he tried to use to stop the out-of-control Magnet Train.
