Purugly is a large cat-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the evolved form of Glameow.

Information[edit]

Purugly evolves from Glameow at Level 38. Purugly are known for being braen brutes and barge their ways into other Pokémon's nests to claim them for themselves. They tightly wrap their twin tails around their waists to make themselves appear intimidatingly beefy. Purugly seems to be motivated by finding comfortable places. It will glare ceaselessly after locking eyes.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Pearl Version, Purugly was uncommonly found at Routes 222 and 229.

Other Games[edit]

Purugly could only be obtained by evolving a Glameow in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at the Cargo Ship. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at the Old Mansion and Ice Temple. Purugly also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Windy Prairie.

Other Appearances[edit]

In Other Media[edit]

  • Purugly made several minor appearances in the Pokémon anime during the Sinnoh series and was also featured as one of Mars's Pokémon. Mars's Purugly was shown to be quite powerful, but it was beaten by Ash's Pikachu during the final battles with Team Galactic. Another episode featured a trainer's Glameow which Team Rocket's Meowth fell in love with. It became bossy after evolving into a Purugly, which pressed Meowth to return it to its trainer.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Purugly was shown as one of Mars's Pokémon during the Diamond/Pearl arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a simple combination of "purr" (the noise made by cats) with "ugly" (due to its appearance, especially in contrast to Glameow)
