Sarugerm was a lame Saruman parody (and not Saru) in virus form the was originally shown having infected Masamune in Gamehiker Member OG III: The Search for Splog. He was originally a normal germ that had been sent especially to subdue Masamune, but he quickly evolved into a sentient and powerful germ due to the cells inside Masamune being literate (having been around for six hundred years). He quickly developed a personality of his own (and a gender identity) and tapped into the identity of Saruman thanks to his access to the Lord of the Rings novels stored in Masamune's memory. Luiigii and Ashley shrunk down using Ezlo to fight him, but SteveT was already there for some reason and beat Sarugerm because he was tired of that plotline.

Sarugerm returned in Gamehiker Member OG X where he was surprisingly powerful. He became a member of the Sweet Sixteen after being sent to prison via the Shrack of Neely. He joined a team consisting of Murasame, Farmer Jon, and Thrakun to steal the Limitless Drive. He was able to defeat Cerulea by infected her water powers and rapidly multiplying into a larger gelatinous form until ultimately he infected her (and later abandoned her body). In the alternate future, Sarugerm had become so powerful that he became an airborne germ and managed to possess all the Gamehikers, but was unable to contaminate X and Rhykette due to them being robots. He was defeated when they exploited his one weakness: a mixture of lime and coconut.
