Banette is a cursed doll-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the evolved form of Shuppet.
Information[edit]
Banette evolves from Shuppet at Level 37. It has been described as a plush doll that was discarded or forgotten by its owner. Banette is brought to life by cursed energy and strong feelings of hatred. This process should technically occur when it was a Shuppet due to evolution. Banette usually live in garbage dumps and are seen in dark alleys. They wander around in search of the children who abandoned them due to the grudge they developed against them. Banette generates energy for laying strong curses by sticking pins into its own body. If a Banette opens its mouth, which is normally zipped shut, its cursed energy will escape, which could possibly render it lifeless again. However, Banette has been shown unzipping its mouth in other games without any consequences.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Banette was found uncommonly at the Sky Pillar. In Diamond and Pearl, Banette appeared somewhat commonly at night at Routes 225, 226 and 227 as well as Stark Mountain, while in Platinum it was only found at Routes 225 and 226. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at the Safari Zone's Marshland area if enough Rock objects were present.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Banette could be snagged from Cipher Peon Litnar at Citadark Isle, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire as well as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Endless Level 16, Forever Level 65, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Banette could be recruited at Sky Stairway.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Banette was featured as one of Harley's Pokémon at the end of the Hoenn series and throughout the Battle Frontier series. He also lent it to Jessie of Team Rocket for several contests, but she had trouble controlling it. Other Banette have appeared in mostly minor roles.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, the mysterious Sird was shown to have a powerful Banette during the FireRed/LeafGreen arc.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a combination of "bane" (referring to its malevolent nature) with "marionette" (as it is a type of puppet).
