Cofagrigus is a coffin-like ghost Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It is the evolved form of Yamask.
Information[edit]
Cofagrigus evolves from Yamask at Level 34. It appears to be a coffin with eyes and a mouth as well as two sets of shadowy arms which stretch out from its body. They have bodies covered in pure gold and like to eat gold nuggets. Cofagrigus often pretend to be elaborate coffins in order to teach lessons to would-be grave robbers. However, it appears that some of these lessons may be permanent ones, as Cofagrigus have been said to swallow those who get too close and turn them into mummies (although this may just reflect their Mummy ability).
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, it commonly appears in the lower floors of the Relic Castle.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Rumble Blast, it acted as the boss of the cave area of the Rugged Flats. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Cofagrigus appeared in Wish Park's Cake Zone as its leader and could be befriended through battle after Wish Park was merged together. This Cofagrigus was said to be a king long ago.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, several Cofagrigus appeared in an episode of the Unova series as some of the guards of the ancient ruins associated with the Black Hero.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, it played a role in part of the Black/White arc where Team Plasma used one to control the dragon fossil from Nacrene Museum and make it look like it was alive to scare others away from pursuing them. The Cofagrigus was hidden among their stolen items so that others would assume it was a stolen coffin, but Black saw through the ruse and exposed it with Burgh's help.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name seems to be a combination of "sarcophagus" with "egregious" (which means to stand out in a negative manner, a description that could be applied to Cofagrigus), and the name is also arranged in a way to suggest "coffin".
