Corsola is a living coral Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games.

Information

Corsola is a Pokémon that is constantly shedding and growing. Its branches glitter beautifully in seven colors when they catch sunlight, and it can regrow any branch that breaks off within a day. The points on Corsola's head absorb nutrients from clear water, and the tip of its head is valued for its beauty. They usually live in warm seas and congregate there, where they make ideal hiding places for smaller Pokémon. Corsola migrates to warmer southern seas when the temperature drops.

However, Corsola cannot survive in polluted water, which causes its beautiful stalks to deteriorate and crumble away. Communities in a south sea nation actually build their houses atop groups of Corsola. Pacifidlog Town in Hoenn is the one in-game example.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Gold, Silver and Crystal, Corsola could be found somewhat commonly by fishing with the Good Rood or Super Rod (being more common with the latter) at Routes 19, 20, 21, 34, 40 and 41 as well as Cherrygrove City, Olivine City, Cianwood City, Cerulean City and Cinnabar Island. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could only be fished at Routes 19, 34 and 40, Cherrygrove City, Union Cave, Olivine City and Cianwood City. Corsola could also be caught at the Pokéwalker's Beyond the Sea course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, it was uncommonly found by fishing with the Super Rod at Route 128 and Ever Grande City, and in Ruby/Sapphire it could also be acquired by trading a Bellossom to a trainer at Pacifidlog Town. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it appeared at Route 230 in swarms. In Black and White, they could appear when surfing in the rippling water at Route 13 and Undella Town.

Other Games

Corsola was featured in the e-Reader minigame "Diving Corsola" in which the player had to guide a Corsola diving to the seafloor without losing oxygen. In Pokémon Channel, it appeared within the Secret Cove. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it could be hatched from an egg. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Phobos Submarine, Endless Level 20, Forever Level 20 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the fifth through thirteenth basement floors Silver Trench and Grand Sea as well as the fifth through thirteenth basement floors of Fantasy Strait, and in Explorers of Time and Darkness it could be recruited at the first nineteen basement floors of Marine Resort.

In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Corsola appeared at Puel Sea. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at Coral Sea. Corsola also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Beach Zone.

Other Appearances

• In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Johto series showed Corsola as Professor Elm's only known Pokémon of his own. It helped Ash's group when they were trapped at sea and was also able to beat Team Rocket for them. This made Misty want her own, and just a few episodes later was an episode featuring a family who raised a group of Corsola and made jewelry from their shed parts. Another Corsola wound up disrupting the business, but Ash's group were able to recover the Corsola for the family, and Misty caught the wild Corsola. It remained as one of her Pokémon for the duration of her appearances and returned to Cerulean Gym with her. Other Corsola have made minor appearances throughout the series.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, one chapter of the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc featured a school of Corsola that stalled Lieutenant Surge's miniature submarine. Crystal was able to find and capture the Corsola leader, which made the group break apart so that they could progress.

• Its name is a combination of "coral" and either "sole" (which refers to a piece of coral) or "sol" (referring to the Sun due to its effect on Corsola).
