Dr. Steven Jones is an archaeologist and the uncle of Mike Jones. He traveled to C-Island in the Coral Sea to do research.

Known as Uncle Jones to or Dr. J, he took residence on a private laboratory on C-Island to conduct his research. He was a particularly gifted inventor as well, inventing the Sub-C and the Nav-Com robot navigator as well. He held good relations with the islanders, with Baboo in particular who was Dr. Jones' assistant.
While nearby Howduyado-Cola Village, he witnessed a meteor fall. When he went to investigate, he instead found an alien spaceship. Inside were three strange cubes which he collected to research, but was instead rounded up by the alien Zoda who had been after the spaceship. He was imprisoned on the spaceship.
However he had been expecting his nephew Mike before then, having originally planned a vacation for the boy. However he had made plans in case anything should happen, which included a secret hidden message that could only be revealed by water. His gamble paid off and his nephew arrived just as he managed to effect his escape from the spaceship. He informed Mike of what had happened and sent him to collect the cubes before Zoda could escape
After Mike had defeated Zoda, Dr. Jones reunited the cubes. In a flash they unleashed the seven Argonian children, one of them including Mica, princess of Argonia. They were left in the care of the chief while Dr. Jones returned to Seattle with the intention of decoding a strange cipher found on the side of the ship.
Zoda's Revenge[edit]
He resorted to trying to solve it by using a special book he had been given by an old wise man (probably Merlin), the Oxford Wonder World - a book with stories of many historical people. However he was no closer to discovering the cipher until he was given a cryptic message from Princess Mica that her father, King Hirocon left her.
"Was it a cat I saw? Was it a rat I saw?"
He concluded the cipher was meant to be read backwards and did so, but managed to say it wrong. Mike, ever eager to help, repeated the same magic words but the was sent spiraling into the past before Steve could stop him.
Trivia[edit]
- Dr. Jones does not reappear again in Zoda's Revenge, as he probably never left Seattle to go back to C-Island.
