Grovyle is a leaf-covered lizard-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the middle form of Treecko's evolutionary line and evolves into Sceptile.

Information[edit]

Grovyle evolves from Treecko at Level 16. They have leaves growing out of their bodies which makes it easy to camouflage themselves from enemies in the forest. Grovyle's strongly developed thigh muscles have greatly improved its agility and jumping abilities. They are masters of climbing trees as well as swiftly leaping from branch to branch, usually to pursue prey. It is said to be impossible to chase down a Grovyle in the forest, no matter how fast the other Pokémon may be. They usually live in dense jungles.

Grovyle evolves into Sceptile at Level 36.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Grovyle has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Treecko.

Other Games[edit]

Grovyle could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 9 and Mr. Who's Den. Groyvle could be recruited in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams at the thirty-eighth through forty-ninth floors of Western Cave and in Explorers of Time and Darkness at the first twenty-nine basement floors of Mystery Jungle. The storyline of Explorers also featured a non-playable Grovyle that appeared to be a villain due to its stealing of Time Gears, but it ultimately turned out that Grovyle was working to prevent a dark future that he himself hailed from, even if it meant erasing himself from history. This Grovyle was also featured in the special Explorers of Sky episode "In the Future of Darkness" where he is shown to still be alive in the dark future and helps to work against Primal Dialga but he and his allies wind up being saved by Arceus.

In Pokémon Ranger, Grovyle was found at Olive Jungle and Fiore Temple. It also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Old Mansion and Forest Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Ash's Treecko evolved into a Grovyle when he was almost halfway through the Hoenn League. It was one of his strongest Pokémon, and he used it for most of the following gym battles as well as most of the Ever Grande Conference. It did not evolve into Sceptile until the Battle Frontier episodes when it was saving a Meganium that he had a crush on from Team Rocket. Other Grovyle have also made several minor appearances. The Grovyle from Explorers made a brief appearance in the Explorers of Time and Darkness special and was featured in the Explorers of Sky special.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, the Treecko which Wally initially received evolved into a Grovyle while protecting him from a Dusclop during the Ruby/Sapphire arc. Wally trained with it under Norman, but he wound up losing Grovyle's Pokéball in the ensuing storm. By a convenient coincidence, the Grovyle wound up on an island where it evolved into Sceptile and was captured by Guile Hideout, which started its journey towards its intended owner, Emerald.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "grove" (which refers to plant life) and "reptile".
