The Ice Rod is a weapon that originally appeared in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Information[edit]
The Ice Rod is a special type of blue rod which fires out blue blasts of ice. These blasts will usually freeze their targets, although the Ice Rod is powerful enough that some enemies will instead be completely destroyed by it.
Appearances[edit]
The Ice Rod could be obtained early in A Link to the Past and was hidden in a cave near Lake Hylia that had to be accessed by bombing a hidden passage. The Ice Rod was only necessary to fight Turtle Rock's boss, Trinexx, so it could be obtained at nearly any point in the adventure. The Ice Rod also will notably destroy the Lanmolas instantly. In this game, usage of the Ice Rod depleted Link's Magic Meter.
In A Link Between Worlds, the Ice Rod was among the items available through Ravio's shop throughout the game. Link could initially rent it for 100 Rupees (and under the rental rules, if the player gets a game over while renting the weapon, it would be returned to Ravio and have to be paid for again) and could later purchase it permanently for 1200 Rupees. The Ice Rod was different in this game in that it, rather than shooting out blasts of ice, caused chunks of ice to drop down in front of the rod. It was needed to complete this game's version of Turtle Rock, and it could also be upgraded to a Nice Ice Rod by Mother Maiamai, which would release four ice chunks at a time in the shape of a diamond. Rather than a Magic Meter, in this game the Ice Rod (and other weapons) depleted a rechargeable Stamina Meter.
In Breath of the Wild, the Ice Rod was a weapon wielded by Ice Wizzrobes. Link could obtain Ice Rods by defeating them. It was classified as a melee weapon, and the only limit on its usage was that it had low durability which caused it to break easily. This game also featured a more powerful version known as the Blizzard Rod.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In Hyrule Warriors, Ravio uses it for some of his moves while using the Rental Hammer weapon. This includes dropping chunks of ice on enemies and creating icicles that can freeze enemies or launch them into the air. It also appears as an Item Card for the Lorule Map in Adventure Mode, where it can be used to destroy fire statues on the map.
- The Ice Rod can be obtained as an item in Cadence of Hyrule.
Trivia[edit]
- The Ice Rod has been primarily replaced by Ice Arrows in later games.
