Mario Party 10 is the tenth installment of the Mario Party subseries that was released for the Wii U in 2015. It is the only Mario Party game to be released for the system and the last Mario Party game to follow the original numbering, with the series being rebranded as Super Mario Party afterwards.
Gameplay[edit]
This game follows the revamped version of gameplay that was introduced in Mario Party 9, with characters traversing the board on a vehicle and collecting Mini Stars. Some new features are based around Bowser. In the standard party mode, Bowser is locked in the Game Pad by the different numbers represented on the dice, and with each number that is rolled, one of his locks is undone. Once he is freed, he will take half of the Mini Stars of the player who undid the last lock and add more Bowser Spaces to the board.
A new mode called Bowser Party is also included, where one player controls Bowser on the GamePad, while up to four other players can compete against him with Wii Remotes playing as the game's other characters. Mini Stars are absent in this mode, and instead characters have hearts. Bowser wins if he depletes the hearts of all other players, while the other players will win if they reach the Super Star at the end of the course with at least one heart left. Bowser gets to roll four Bowser Dice Blocks, while the other characters get to roll one dice block each, and once characters meet, they compete in a special Bowser Battle minigame, where Bowser's attacks can deplete characters' hearts.
This game also features a mode called amiibo Party, where players can scan up to four amiibos and play with them on a small board, where they gather coins and compete with stars, as in the classic Mario Party games. There is also a Minigame mode, as in past games, and an extra mode known as Toad's Room.
In terms of playable characters, this game brings back the eight characters that have been playable in every game since Mario Party 3 while also featuring the return of Donkey Kong as a playable character. Rosalina is also added to the roster in this game, with Toadette and Spike also appearing as unlockable characters
Legacy[edit]
Four minigames from this game would later be included in Mario Party: The Top 100.
Sequels[edit]
The next Mario Party games to be released would be Mario Party: Star Rush for the in 2016 and the minigame compilation game Mario Party: The Top 100 in 2017, both for the Nintendo 3DS. The next main Mario Party game would be Super Mario Party for the Nintendo Switch in 2018, which seemingly does away with the original sequel numbering and returns the series to more traditional gameplay.
