Nemona is a Pokémon Trainer who is featured as the rival character and a supporting character for the ninth generation games of the Pokémon series, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. She is a Champion-rank train who acts as the focal character, recurring rival and final opponent of the game's Victory Road storyline.

Background[edit]

Nemona came from a wealthy family, with a father who was on the board of the Rotom Phone company. She also had an older sister who the family felt would take over the business someday, which allowed Nemona to have more freedom in her own choices in life. She considered her parents to be "hands-off in a good way". Nemona lived in a large beachside home located at Cabo Poco and attended Paldea's prestigious academy for Pokémon Trainers. She was a diligent student of the general studies track, being in Professor Jacq's homeroom in Class 1-A, and she became the president of the school's student council. She resided at the school dorms while also still living at her family home.

Her primary passion was for Pokémon battles. She was known for her prestigious strength as a Pokémon trainer, to the point where she had to hold back against virtually all of her opponents. Her only downside was that she was not good at throwing Poké Balls, to the point where she wore an arm brace on her right arm. During the academy's Treasure Hunt, Nemona took on Paldea's Pokémon League and earned the Champion rank by completing the League's Champion Assessment. This was considered to be particularly remarkable, as she did so by defeating Geeta, who was said to be tough enough that a majority of her challengers were defeated. And yet, Nemona held back even against Geeta. Although she was proud to become a champion, she yearned to find a rival who she could truly go all-out against and felt unsure about whether she succeeded in finding her personal treasure.

During the events of Scarlet/Violet, she gained a new neighbor and classmate in the form of Florian/Juliana and met them when Clavell was going around paying visits to the family homes of the students. Nemona was excited to meet the new trainer and asked Clavell if she could pick one of the starter Pokémon to train alongside Florian/Juliana's. Clavell was confused by that request, as he thought that Nemona had already receieved one of the starter Pokémon when she started at the academy, but she clarified that she had passed on that offer at the time, as she had already been focusing on raising different Pokémon at the time. She picked a Pokémon with a type disadvantage against Florian/Juliana's and then challenged them to their first battle at the beach near her home. Regardless of who won or lost the first battle, Nemona was excited by the trainer's potential and proceeded to help them further by installing the Pokédex app on their phone and showing them how to catch wild Pokémon on the Poco Path. Nemona proceeded to act as Florian/Juliana's guide to Mesagoza, but along the way, they had an incident which resulted in Florian/Juliana being accompanied by Kuraidon (in Scarlet)/Miraidon (in Violet). They also had a run-in with Arven along the way, who revealed the Pokémon's name to them, but not much else.

Before reaching Mesagoza, Nemona challenged Florian/Juliana to a second battle at South Province's Area One to test how well the trainer was doing so far. At Mesagoza, she continued to act as a guide for Florian/Juliana and gave them a Tera Orb so that they could begin Terastalizing their Pokémon. She watched the trainer use it for the first time against some Team Star members who were causing trouble, and she proceeded to report that to Clavell. Soon afterwards, the School's Treasure Hunt began. Nemona encouraged Florian/Juliana to take on the gym challenge and become a champion like her, but she butted heads with Arven and the mysterious Cassiopeia, who both wanted Florian/Juliana to focus on different objectives instead.

Victory Road[edit]

Nemona appeared throughout the game's Victory Road storyline. She met with Florian/Juliana at every gym they took on (with the exception of the sixth gym) and was excited to see them progress through the Pokémon League, while continuing to give them advice. At the second gym, she claimed it was just a coincidence that she ran into them there and specifically denied sneaking ahead to wait for the trainer at the next gym. When Florian/Juliana arrived at their third gym, Nemona challenged them to another battle as a pre-Gym warm-up battle. At the fourth gym, she reluctantly decided not to battle, as the team she had on her was one specifically to battle the gym leader.

At the fifth gym, she made up for that by challenging Florian/Juliana to a battle again while denying that she chased them down just to battle them. But she took some time to fine-tune her team first while Florian/Juliana took on the gym leader. After the fifth gym leader was beaten, Nemona saw Florian/Juliana with Geeta and asked the Top Champion not to steal Florian/Juliana away from her. She proceeded to battle the trainer again, this time with Geeta watching the battle. This was helpful, as she reminded Nemona to make sure Florian/Juliana's Pokémon were healed from the gym battle first. Afterwards, she battled them on more time at the seventh gym.

After Florian/Juliana beat all of the eight gyms, Nemona decided to prepare her Pokémon team for when the trainer became a champion. After Florian/Juliana successfully passed the Champion Assessment and became a fellow Champion-Rank Trainer, Nemona was waiting outside the Pokémon League to congratulate them and to declare that they should be best rivals for life, which the player could not say no to. Nemona was finally ready to have an all-out battle agaisnt Florian/Juliana, but Geeta once again convinced her to slow down so that Florian/Juliana's Pokémon could heal and so that they could find a fitting location for the battle. It was ultimately decided that they would battle in the battle court in Mesagoza's central plaze. There, they had an all-out battle with a large audience in attendence. Nemona was defeated by Florian/Juliana, but she was ecstatic about this, as she had never found a battle to be so fun before. Nemona felt that she had found the treasure she was looking for through Florian/Juliana: a true rival who could stand up to her at her full capabilities.

Area Zero and Post-Game[edit]

During the final story of the main storyline, Nemona was recruited along with Penny to accompny Florian/Juliana and Arven to explore Area Zero in search of Professor Sara (Scarlet)/Professor Toro (Violet). During their journey through Area Zero, they came across a variety of Paradox Pokémon and came across information regarding the professor and Kuraidon/Miraidon. The group of young trainers also got to know each other and bonded in the process, even if Penny and Arven could find Nemona's energy to be off-putting. During the journey, Nemona fought alongside Florian/Juliana in two battles: against a wild Glimmora and later against either a Great Tusk in Scarlet or Iron Treads in Violet. As everyone's Poké Balls were deactivated by the Paradise Protection Protocol, Nemona could only watch and offer moral support during the final battle.

After the threat of the time portal in Area Zero was shut down, the group returned to the school where Clavell both admonished and congratulated them. Nemona suggested celebrating with a battle contest, and Geeta supported the idea. It was soon decided that it would be a tournament in which even the school's faculty to take part. Nemona ended up organizing the tournament instead of taking part so that Geeta and all of the teachers would be able to join in on it. It was ultimately called the Academy Ace Tournament, despite Arven and Clavell attempting to call it the School Battle Brawl, which Nemona disliked. After Florian/Juliana won the first tournament, Nemona congratulated them and gave them a Sporty Cap (Pokémon League). Afterwards, Nemona could participate in subsequent tournaments and was one of four characters (along with Geeta, Clavell and Hassel) who could appear as the final opponent for the tournament. It was also possible to talk to Nemona around school, in order to bond with her more and get to see her dorm room.

Pokémon Roster[edit]

The following is the team that Nemona uses during Scarlet/Violet. It is indicated that she has many more Pokémon and has multiple rosters for Pokémon teams that she uses depending on different factors such as her opponent's skill level. She also did not have any of Paldea's starter Pokémon prior to the game's events, as she says that she was busy training different Pokémon when they were previously distributed.

  • Sprigatito/Floragato/Meowscarada, Fuecoco/Crocolar/Skeledirge or Quaxly/Quaxwell/Quaquaval: Nemona will choose the starter Pokémon that has a type disadvantage against the one chosen by the player (Sprigatito if the player chose Fuecoco, Fuecoco if the player chose Quaxly or Quaxly if the player chose Sprigatito). This Pokémon will undergo its first evolution by the third battle and its final evolution by the fourth battle. From the third battle onward, this is the Pokémon that she will Terastalize, with its Tera Type being the Pokémon's primary elemental type.
  • Pawmi/Pawmo/Pawmot: This Pokémon is used from the second battle onwards, evolving into Pawmo by the fourth battle and Pawmot by the fifth battle. She will Terastalize Pawmi during the second battle only, with an Electrical Tera Type.
  • Rockruff/Lycanroc (Midday Form): Rockruff is first used during the third battle and evolves into Lycanroc by the fourth battle.
  • Goomy/Sliggoo/Goodra: Used from the fourth battle onwards. It evolves into Sliggoo by the fifth battle and Goodra by the championship battle.
  • Dudunsparce (Three-Segment Form): Used starting in the championship battle.
  • Orthworm: Used starting in the championship battle.

In Other Pokémon Games[edit]

In Pokémon Masters EX, Nemona and her Pawmot appeared as a playable sync pair that could be recruited as a playable character through the game's Sync Pair Scout feature during limited time periods, starting in August 2023. She could alternately use Goodra or Lycanroc as an opponent in battles. She was featured in the Story Event "We Should Battle!", in which had recently arrived on Pasio and was excited to go all out in a three-way battle with Blue and Bede. At Blue's suggestion, Lear held a tournament for Nemona's arrival. Nemona formed a team with Bede and Hilda for the tournament, with Nemona and Hilda connecting over their similar passions for Pokémon battling. They made it to the final round of the tournament, where they battled the team of Red, Blue and Green. Nemona's team lost, but she still loved the battle. The event added with Lear announcing another tournament for Nemona to take part in, one in which all of the other competitors were champions from other regions. She was also the subject of the solo event, "Let's Have a Fruitful Battle!", where she sought out more powerful trainers to battle with the aid of Scottie/Bettie.

Other Appearances[edit]
