Phione is a small and special aquatic Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is a baby that can be born from the legendary Pokémon Manaphy, but it has no evolutionary line and it is uncertain whether or not Phione is itself legendary.

Information[edit]

Phione can be hatched from eggs led by Manaphy (when bred with a Ditto, but the exact manner of their relation is uncertain as they are not linked by any known evolutionary line, although they are remarkably similar creatures. Phione itself can still be bred to produce more Phione. Phione is a Pokémon that lives in warm seas. It inflates the floatation sac on its head to drift and search for food. They drift around the sea in packs, but Phione always end up returning to the place where they were born, regardless of the distance.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In all games, Phione can only be obtained by breeding a Manaphy (which is obtained through Pokémon Ranger) or by getting one through My Pokémon Ranch.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Phione was found at the bottom of the Miracle Sea, where a Gyarados was trying to forcefully extract its Phione Dew. After the Gyarados was beaten in a boss battle, the Phione would freely agree to being recruited, as the player needed Phione's dew to cure Manaphy. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at the Canal Ruins after the main storyline was completed. In My Pokémon Ranch, the player could receive a Phione in a trade with Hayley after storing 250 Pokémon, and the Pokémon could be transferred to Diamond or Pearl (as well as Platinum in Japan). Phione also appeared in Pokémon Rumble, where it was unlockable with a ticket from releasing Lapras and Vaporeon.

Other Appearances[edit]

In Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Phione was featured in an episode of the Sinnoh series where one Phione is temporarily separated from its group following an encounter with Team Rocket and forms a crush on Dawn's Buneary. It returned to its pack at the end after losing to Buneary in a battle, but Dawn managed to cheer it up by telling the Phione that Buneary would miss him.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of the end of Manaphy's name with "clione" (a type of sea angel that is popular in Japan).
