Poliwhirl is an amphibious Pokémon introduced in the first generation games. It is the evolved form of Poliwag and could originally evolve only into Poliwrath, although it alternately became Politoed starting in the second generation.
Information[edit]
Poliwhirl evolves from Poliwag at Level 25. It can survive both in and out of water, although while on land it will sweat constantly to keep its body slimy. Its skin is most to allow it to constantly slip out of enemy's clutches. The skin on its belly spiral is smooth in contrast and subtly undulates, causing drowsiness to those who look upon it. Poliwhirl will often hypnotize opponents with the spiral when under attack to escape.
It has well-developed legs, but it prefers to live underwater where there is less danger. Poliwhirl evolves into Poliwrath when exposed to a Water Stone. Alternately, it evolves into Politoed when it is traded to another trainer while holding the King's Rock.

In Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Misty had a Poliwag that evolved into a Poliwhirl in an episode of the Johto series. She used it in several battles such as the Whirl Cup and in a later episode of the series, she accidentally used a King's Rock that Ash had won from a tournament to evolve it into a Politoed.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Poliwhirl was shown as Red's first Pokémon and the only one he had at the beginning. It evolved into a Poliwrath during the battle with Lt. Surge due to traces of a Water Stone in the water. Gold also had his own Poliwag during the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc, which evolved into a Poliwhirl and ultimately Politoed at the Tin Tower.
Trivia[edit]
