Primeape is the powerful evolved form of Mankey that was introduced in the first generation Pokémon games.
Information[edit]
Primeape evolves from Mankey at Level 28. It is defined by a constant state of fury. They will relentlessly chase their quarry until caught and beaten up. Even if disturbed while sleeping, Primeape will angrily gave chase while groggy and half-asleep. Primeape are filled with intense fury just from noticing someone looking at them. Its blood circulation is boosted with its anger, which strengthens its muscles but dulls its intelligence.
It is said that a Primeape will become angry when looking at someone's eyes, angrier when the person runs and even angrier when being defeated. Primeape have also been said to only stop being angry when it is alone. However, these rare moments are difficult to witness.

Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Yellow Version, Primeape was rarely found on Route 23. In FireRed and LeafGreen, they could be found at Route 23, Cerulean Cave and Victory Road. In Gold and HeartGold, it was uncommonly found at Route 9, as well as in Cerulean Cave in HeartGold.
In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Primeape appeared at Routes 225 and 226 when the Poké Radar was used.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Pinball, Primeape could only be gained through evolution. It also appeared in Pokémon Puzzle League as one of Bruno's Pokémon and in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge as one of Chuck's Pokémon. Amongst the Pokémon line of e-Reader games, Primeape was featured in "Dream Eater" in which the player controlled a Drowzee that had to avoid being noticed by a Primeape while slowly putting it to sleep using Hypnosis. In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Primeape could be snagged from Cipher Admin Gorigan at Cipher Key Lair. After being purified, this Primeape could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, Primeape was found at Endless Level 13, Forever Level 62, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den.
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Primeape could only be gained through evolution, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it was found at the first nineteen floors of Mt. Travail and the first seventeen floors of Shimmer Hill. In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at Olive Jungle, while in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia it appeared at Altru Building and Altru Tower. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Primeape could be found at Rasp Cavern, Faldera Island and Ice Temple. Primeape also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Fiery Furnace. In PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, Primeape could be befriended at Iceberg Zone and also appeared at Meeting Place.

- In the Pokémon anime, one episode during the first series revolved around Ash trying to recover his hat from a thieving Mankey that evolved into a Primeape partway through after being goaded by Team Rocket. It then beat up Team Rocket and chased Ash's group relentlessly until Ash was able to beat the Primeape with his Charmander and catch it. It was only a few episodes later that Ash entered Primeape in the P1 Grand Prix, and Primeape wound up winning the tournament after defeating a Team Rocket-controlled Hitmonlee. Ash then gave the Primeape to a trainer named Anthony, who wanted to further train with it.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, one chapter of the Yellow arc features a Primeape leading a gang of Mankey in an attack on Yellow and Blue. Blue's Porygon is able to defeat it, at which point Yellow sympathizes with the Primeape and convinces them to leave.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a play on "primate" (the biological order which contains monkeys and apes as well as humans) combined with "prime", in reference to its dominant nature.
