Background[edit]
As the son of the famous former general Garcia of Renais, Ross always looked up to his father and strove to be liked him. His mother, Risa, fell ill while he was still very young. She died while Garcia was away and when at last the general returned, he met the son that his wife had left behind. From that day on, Garcia vowed to stop fighting and to make sure he raised Ross as a true father. Though Garcia adopted a more peaceful lifestyle, Ross became an axeman like his father and did everything he could to emulate him with the hope of one day living up to his family name.
When Renais was defeated by Grado, a band of bandits led by Bone destroyed their village, Ide. Ross and Garcia were able to escape, but were surrounded by bandits and Ross was lightly wounded during the escape. However they were rescued when Princess Eirika arrived and commanded Vanessa to carry Ross away from the action. Afterward one of Eirika's knights, Seth, recognized and tried to convince him to join their fight against Grado. Though Garcia refused to do so because of what happened to his wife, Ross declared that even if his father wouldn't fight, that he would anyways. His drive convinced Garcia to also join Eirika's army and the two fought alongside her and Ephraim until the war's conclusion.
Possible Fates[edit]
Ross has two different endings, depending on whether he reaches A-Support with Amelia or Garcia.
- Default Ending - After the war, Ross returned to the village of Ide and helped to rebuild it. A few years later, he set out on a journey to perfect his fighting skills while honing his body and spirit.
- Ross and Amelia Ending - Ross brought Amelia to his hometown and eventually she decided to stay. As time went on, the two eventually fell in love and were married. They would later have a son that grew up to be a great warrior like Ross, eventually surpassing him.
- Ross and Garcia Ending - With the war over, Ross and his father returned to Ide. Together they helped to rebuild the village and over time Ross grew to become a greater warrior than his father. Eventually Ross had a son that carried on the family legacy.
Support Conversation Summaries[edit]
Ross is capable of support conversations with five other characters.
- Garcia - Ross asks Garcia what their mother was like, and Garcia compares her to Eirika, saying that she was gentle, strong and could share others' pain. Ross says that their mother must be lonely since they have not visited her grave since leaving the village, and Garcia suggests they return to the village after the war and that they could rebuild the village by themselves and visit her grave again. Ross says he would need to be stronger, so he decides to continue training with Garcia. In the next conversation, Ross and Garcia are seen at the end of a sparring session. Afterwards Garcia declares that Ross has advanced greatly but he will not let him win, and Ross agrees as he looks forward to surpassing Garcia's level to himself. He then leaves to practice his swing, at which point Garcia says to Risa as if she were there that Ross had grown into a strong young man. In the final conversation, Garcia becomes sentimental and while tightly gripping Ross's shoulders, urges him not to act foolishly because he was all he had in this world and there was no greater tragedy than a parent burying their son. Ross promises to be careful. Garcia says that he will always be his son no matter how old he got, and Ross says that he will always look up to Garcia.
- Lute - In the first conversation, Ross confronts Lute and asks her about her magic powers, although Lute does not take him seriously and refers to him as "Son-of-warrior-garcia-ross". When Ross asks if he could learn magic, she bluntly answers no and leaves abruptly. In the next conversation, Ross chastises Lute for leaving in the middle of their conversation and prevents her from doing so again, and he admits to her that he was looking into magic because his mother was a mage before she died. He says that he does not really want to be a mage, and Lute says he should follow the path more appropriate for him and his abilities, but Ross says that he really only wanted to talk to a female mage like her and thanked her. In the final conversation she finally remembers his actual name, and Ross begins to ask her more about her interests and her family, only to be confused by her answers. He then offers to protect her because despite being a great mage, she does not seem to be physically strong. Lute accepts this offer but says that she would most likely end up protecting him, which caused him to point out in annoyance that she was just supposed to say yes. He then talks about his desire to grow up to be as strong as his dad, but Lute bluntly tells him that disappointment is a cruel mistress.
- Amelia - In the first conversation, Amelia trips and accidentally hurts Ross, and he begins to attack her but she denies being a Grado soldier anymore. Ross eventually comes to believe this and that her "surprise attack" was an accident, and realizes that she has all the markings of a rookie soldier so he offers to protect her from hazing. In return he only demands she help him against enemies with swords, and she agrees, then thanks Ross for believing her. In the next conversation they exchange names and Ross says she has been improving and that he remembers what it's like to be a rookie. He assures her that they will both continue to improve and advance through the ranks. Ross then gives her a necklace that he bought long ago, although Amelia accepts it with reluctance. She says this is because she lived a modest life and could not afford something like that she considered everything precious and did not want Ross to part with something that was precious to him, although he assures her that it will be fine and jokes that he looks better with earrings than necklaces. In the final conversation, he checks up on Amelia and while talking about his aspirations comes to describe his father and then asks Amelia about her family. She briefly describes her parents' situations, which causes Ross to feel sorry about bring up something so painful. However, he immediately attempts to amend this by saying that he will be her new older brother due to the army being like a family. Amelia questions this because she thinks that they are the same age and in fact she might be older, which comes to anger Ross, although she finds his anger cute. He says he will take her to his village after the war because they are brother and sister and will share both joy and sorrow as a family. Amelia notes that this sounds like a proposal, but Ross in turn accuses her of mixing up his words.
- Ewan - Ross meets Ewan due to being around the same age and suggests that they hang out sometime, although Ewan says they should hang out right now despite the battle because they are not necessary at the moment. After comparing their skills, Ewan challenges Ross to a brainteaser involving pebbles and a balance which serves to confuse Ross, but he vows to solve it it. In the next conversation, Ross answers wrongly again, at which point Ewan points out the correct answer and explains it, although Ross does not seem to fully digest the long-winded explanation. Ewan than laughs at him and suggests that they hang out more often, although Ross is not so eager do to having not had any fun. In the last conversation Ross points out that his brainteaser was not fun and says he must have had a bad childhood if he considered that fun, which caused Ewan to reveal his past as an orphan. Ross begins to feel bad, but Ewan says he is still happy because of all the friends he has made since being abandoned. Ross then suggests that they becomes brothers so they could rely on and trust each other completely. Ewan goes along with this and asks Ross if he has a girlfriend, which he denies saying that he has to focus on the war. Posing the same question to Ewan, Ewan claims to have many girlfriends which surprises Ross but he then admits that since he is young it is probably best for him to not be tied down. Ewan then assures Ross that they will be friends for a long time.
- Gerik - In their first conversation, Ross approaches Gerik hoping that the mercenary would teach him a few skills, explaining that he wants to be able to live up to the title of 'Son of Garcia'. Later Ross asks Gerik if he's ever been on a sea voyage and Gerik explains that when he went that the sea sickness was more brutal than the enemies they went to face. When Ross asks how he should become stronger, Gerik replies that it's all in the mind. Ross realizes that by thinking it was impossible to beat Gerik in a duel, he had been setting himself up for defeat. In their last conversation, Ross asks Gerik why the sword is stronger than the axe, explaining that he would like to be able to shatter a silver sword with an iron axe. Gerik relates to him when he first met Garcia in battle and how he had been so intimidated that he lost the duel as a result. Ross is emboldened and declares that he's not just the son of Garcia, but also the best student of Gerik.
