Background[edit]

Seth was born to a family of knights and trained hard since he was young. He grew up to become the general of the Knights of Renais, and was considered like a second son to Renais's King Fado, such that he was told the secret of the resting place of Renais's Sacred Stone. Seth was also close to Fado's actual children Ephraim and Eirika, but he was careful not to become too attached to them such that it interfered with their duities, particularly in the case of Eirika. During his training, he had looked up to one particular knight, considering him the greatest knight of all, until that knight was fatally wounded while dispatching an assassin. However, he would come to supervise the knight's two children, Forde and Franz.

In the prologue, during Grado's sudden invasion of Renais, King Fado ordered Seth to evacuate the castle with Eirika. Seth reluctantly carried out this order and literally carried Eirika out of the castle atop his horse, sending Franz ahead to Frelia so they could prepare for their arrival there. They were soon ambushed by Valter, who badly wounded Seth, but Seth was still able to retreat with Eirika. He told her not to worry about her brother and father and entrusted her with a rapier to defend herself with, especially in the event of his death. They safely made it to Frelia, where they learned of Fado's death at the hands of Grado's invasion force. He then asked Hayden about Ephraim's disappearance, hearing about his guerrilla attacks on the Grado Empire. As the journey continued, Seth continued to serve as a source of advice to the siblings, eventually explaining the truth behind their bracelets as wellas their connection to Renais's Sacred Stone in "Chapter 6: Victims of War". In "Chapter 8: It's a Trap!", he served to managed to prevent Eirika from being tricked by Orson by deducing that he was a traitor and calling him out. After Castle Renais was reclaimed in "Chapter 16: Ruled by Madness", Seth instructed the twins as they opened the chamber and claimed their Sacred Twin weapons.

Possible Fates[edit]

Seth has three possible endings, depending on whether or not he has reached A-rank Support with Eirika or Natasha.

  • Default Ending- Returning to Renais with Ephraim and the knights, his dedication leads to him becoming the most trusted of the king and queen's new guardsmen as well as the most famous of Renais's knights.
  • Eirika and Seth's Ending- Eirika and Seth are married upon returning to Renais, with the blessings of Ephraim and the other knights. The tale of a love between a princess and her loyal knight would go on to become a beloved romance in Renais.
  • Natasha and Seth's Ending- Natasha came to Renais with Seth, and they were married. They were at first busy helping with the reconstruction of Renais, but they then settled down to live in peace and happiness for the remainder of their days.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

Seth is capable of having support conversations with five other characters:

  • Cormag - Cormag observes Seth's skill, and Seth goes on to introduce himself, but both profess to having already heard of the other. Seth tells him that he and his brother were famous among the Knights of Renais due to Renais's lack of wyvern stories, which lead to stories of them becoming favorites among his men. Seth tells Cormag that he would love a chance to spar with him. Cormag does not think he can stand up to Seth, but Seth sees that Cormag will never accept failure, so they agree to spar once things have eased up. In the next conversation, Seth asks Cormag about his family due to wondering if they were all soldiers because of his skill. However, Cormag tells him about his "dirt-poor" agricultural background prior to being discovered by the emperor. Seth notes that they have opposing backgrounds but have the same loyalties. Cormag then points out Fado's death and how his emperor being responsible has led him to disown him, but Seth tells Cormag that he has found a new lord and assures Cormag that he will find a ruler worthy of his loyalties as well. In the final conversation, he offers Cormag a post among the Knights of Renais due to observing his skill as well as his strength and nobility. However, Cormag turns it down due to Grado being his home and Emperor Vigarde being his lord, as his only duty now was to correct Vigarde's mistakes. Seth claims he predicted this response and they both are glad to meet each other. They then endeavor to end the war and then get together to tell stories.
  • Eirika - Eirika shows concern for Seth for helping her escape from the castle while he was injured and realizes he is still suffering from he injury despite his efforts to hide his pain. She warns him not top overextend himself because she could not go on without him. In the next conversation, Eirika shows Seth her fighting abilities and he notices improvement, but Eirika then asks Seth to train her so that she could become even stronger. Seth shows reluctance about letting Eirika battle on the front lines but she refuses to wait in the back while people die for her and wants to be able to protect herself. In the final conversation Seth tells Eirika that they have grown too close recently, and as heir to throne of Renais she should have no attachments and favor no subject over another, and adding that she does not owe him anything for the wound he suffered for her. Eirika consents to his request and apologizes for her behavior while also admitting that she felt something more for Seth when he carried her from Castle Renais. Seth then excuses himself but returns immediately to confess that he similarly when escaping Renais with her thought of Eirika not as his queen but as someone whom he wanted to protect from all harm and take to somewhere far away where they could be together. Seth then asks her to forgive him, says that he would never again abandon his duty and leaves while Eirika says his name.
  • Franz - After greeting each other, Seth notices that Franz has improved much since they set out in that he seemed much more sure of himself and without doubt. He remarked with confidence that Franz would be the finest spear- and swordsman around when he reached Seth's age. However, he also warned him to mind his limits and keep himself from getting cocky. In the second conversation, Seth continued to observe Franz's progress, but showed irritation at Franz's constant overreactions to his compliments. Franz also told Seth how much he admired him for his impossible feats, such as the escape from Castle Frelia. In the final conversation, Franz once more felt honored when Seth talked to him, but Seth told Franz that he was the one who should feel honored. He explained that he had used to look up to Forde and Franz's father when he was just a squire and considered him the greatest knight in history. Franz then reminisced about his family's troubled past and how he grew up hearing about the great knight he was but only remembered his shoulder which he and Forde had vied for a position on prior to the father's death. Seth then told Franz that he strongly resembled his father, and voiced his belief that Franz had inherited his spirit, and explained that he was honored to see the skill of the man he had idolized developing in the man's son. This led Franz to vow to become a greater knight than his father or brother, and they both vowed to do the best they could for Franz's father as well as Renais.
  • Garcia - Seth admires Garcia's fighting style and how little his skills have dwindled over the years, but Garcia rejects the compliments and says he has become old and rusty, and then interjects that he is not done yet. Seth interprets this as his warrior's will and his pride refusing to accept limitations. In the next conversation, Garcia notes Seth's resemblance to a younger version of him and the two reminisce about King Fado. Garcia blames himself for the death, but Seth instead commends Garcia for fighting alongside them, leading the two to agree to visit the king's tomb after the war to report their victory. In the final conversation, Seth notes that Garcia is quite energetic as opposed to his low spirits earlier and seems to have lost all hesitation. Garcia admits that he has decided to accept both sides of his life, being proud of being a fighter and not being ashamed for his family either. Garcia then advises Seth to start a family as well, although Seth admits that might take some time for him.
  • Natasha - In the first conversation, Seth confronts Natasha regarding an incident the other day and tells her that she should worry about healing herself before taking care of others. Natasha apologizes for worrying him and says she usually helps a wounded person immediately without considering her own needs, promising that she will be more careful in the future. Seth tells her how necessary she is to helping the troops, but Natasha in turn tells Seth he is indispensable and that she wishes he was less reckless, and he agrees to not worry her so much. In the next conversation, he checks up on her after hearing that she collapsed the other night, telling her she should rest more. Natasha explained that there were many injured and she drained herself trying to heal them all. He noted how she and Eirika both seemed hell-bent on throwing their lives away in battle, causing Natasha to worry that she is a liability. However, Seth tells her that the others have taken to calling her "the healing spirit" and explains how at first he had trouble trusting a former Grado soldier healing him, but he came to see he was wrong and appreciate her kindness, saying that they were lucky to have her as a friend. When Natasha questioned the last word, Seth told her she was more than a friend and an irreplaceable asset to their cause. He then assured her that if he was injured in battle, he would not be reckless and rush to her for treatment, knowing that she will take care of him, although Natasha hoped there would be no need for him to be healed. In the final conversation Seth and Natasha both credit each other for their well-being, with Seth telling Natasha how she always healed his broken body, and Natasha telling him how he constantly rescued her from enemies. When Seth asks her, Natasha replies that she does plan to return to Grado someday, but Seth begins asking her if she would come to Renais and then directly asks her to live with him after the war. When Natasha begins to bring up her celibacy, Seth tells her that the Everlasting would smile upon a love shared by his creations. Natasha then agrees, at which point Seth vows up on her sacred oaths to make her happy. Natasha hopes he keeps the promise and says she will wait for him after the war is finished, and Seth assures Natasha that he will keep his promise.

Trivia[edit]

  • Seth is considered the "Jagan" character of The Sacred Stones, due to being a powerful unit available early in the game but taking only small amounts of experience points that could be better used on other units.
