Shuckle is a shelled Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is known for its extraordinary defense.
Information[edit]
Shuckle usually hide under rocks and keep their bodies concealed within their shells, staying completely still to avoid others. It uses its shell to store berries and later eats them. The berries in a Shuckle's shell eventually decompose or mix with its body fluids ferment to become a type of gooey liquid or juice. Shuckle also secretes a fluid from its toes which can carve holes in rocks to make nests, and they have also been known to mix this fluid with the berries for another kind of drink.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, wild Shuckle could be uncommonly found by smashing rocks at Route 40 (Gold/Silver/Crystal only), Dark Cave's Violet City entrance and Cianwood City. Additionally, a PokéManiac known as Kirk living at Cianwood City will entrust his Shuckle to the player due to fears that Silver would steal it, and if the player tried to return it he would decided to let the player keep it permanently. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Shuckle could also appear at the Safari Zone's Marshland area if enough Rock objects were present.
In FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald, Shuckle could appear at Altering Cave with the use of an e-card. In Emerald, they were also commonly found by smashing rocks in the Safari Zone's extension. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Shuckle uncommonly appeared at Route 224 through the dual slot method when an Emerald cartridge was in the GBA slot. In Black and White, it was rarely found at Route 14.
Other Games[edit]
A Shadow Suckle could be snagged from Deep King Agnol at Deep Colosseum in Pokémon Colosseum, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. A Shuckle could also be obtained by trading a Surskit to Duking at Pyrite Town in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and this Shuckle could be traded to the same color versions. In Pokémon Channel, it appeared at Cobalt Coast on clear evenings and cloudy nights. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 8, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den.
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the fifth through eighth floors of Mt. Blaze, the seventh through eleventh floors of Howling Forest and the sixth through ninth basement floors of Oddity Cave, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it was recruitable at the first seven floors of Lower Steam Cave and the first twelve basement floors of Landslide Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Shuckle could be found at Wireless Tower and the Fire Temple.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Johto series featured an old man who made medicine from the Shuckle's berry juice, and Ash's friends wound up having to protect a purple Shuckle whose juice attracted Pokémon to anyone who drank it. Along with various minor appearances, Shuckle have been shown belonging to both Cassidy of Team Rocket and Conway during the Sinnoh series.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Shuckle made only minor appearances in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc, where it was briefly shown as one of Kurt's Pokémon as well as among the Pokémon that Crystal caught. During the FireRed/LeafGreen arc, Orm had a Shuckle which he used to control other Shuckle in battle with Blue until Blue defeated the leader. Shuckle was also featured in a chapter of the Emerald arc where Lucy used it during her Battle Pike fight against Emerald, which showed off how formidable it was even though ultimately lost to Emerald's Starmie.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name seems to be a combination of "shuck" (which means a husk or pod) with "turtle" (which it vaguely resembles, primarily due to having a shell).
- Shuckle has the highest Defense and Special Defense base stats of any Pokémon. However, it also dies with Munchlax for having lowest Speed, and with Feebas and Bonsly for having lowest Special Attack.
