Swablu is a small, blue fluffy-winged bird Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. Its evolved form is Altaria.
Information[edit]
Swablu has light and fluffy wings which resemble cottony clouds. They are not afraid of people and have been known to even land on people's heads, where they sit like cotton-fluff hats. Swablu is a tidy Pokémon, and if it finds anything dirty it will use its own wings to wipe and polish it. Swablu will also shower themselves in streams when their wings become dirty. It can only rest once it and its surroundings are clean. Swablu endure winter, in which little food is available, and the flocks then move closer to towns during the spring.
It evolves into Altaria at Level 35.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, it could be found somewhat commonly at Routes 114 and 115. In Diamond and Pearl, it appeared in the eastern area of Route 211 when using the Pokéradar. In Platinum, it was found at Route 210. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they could appear at Route 45 in swarms.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Swablu could be snagged from Hunter Zalo at Pyrite Cave, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it appeared in the Wilderness at the Sapphire Field. The egg of a Swablu that uniquely knows False Swipe could also be receieved as a gift at the beginning of Pokémon Box: Ruby & Sapphire, and it could also be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Phobos Jet, Endless Level 5, Forever Level 5 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at Sekra Mountain Range.
Sekra could be recruited in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams at the first seven floors of Mt. Freeze, the seventh through twelfth floors of Pitfall Valley, the fifty-third through fifty-ninth floors of Joyous Tower and the seventh through twelfth basement floors of Remains Island, and in Explorers of Time and Darkness at Blizzard Island, Crevice Cave and Mt. Avalanche.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Hoenn series featured the group helping a Swablu to fly again after it had injured its wing. The Swablu almost became one of May's Pokémon but was able to find and rejoin its flock instead at the end of the episode. Other Swablu have made primarily minor appearances.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Swablu was shown as part of Winona's team during the Ruby/Sapphire arc. Lanette and Brigette were also shown with their own Swablu.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name seems to be a combination of "swab" (which refers to the cotton-like wings) and "blue" (which is of course due to its coloration).
