Teddiursa is a small bear club-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. Its evolved form is Ursaring.

Information[edit]

Like actual bears, Teddiursa has a well-known taste for honey, and the crescent shape on its head glows when it is near honey. They are always licking honey, even off of its paws due to their being soaked in honey. Each set of Teddiursa paws sound unique. They have even concocted their own honey by mixing fruits and pollen that had been collected by Beedrill. Teddiura have been known to hoard food in many locations in preparation for winter, when food becomes scarce.

It evolves into Ursaring at Level 30.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Gold (Silver instead in Japan) and SoulSilver Versions, Teddiursa was uncommonly found at Route 45. In Crystal, they appeared only rarely at Dark Cave in the morning. In SoulSilver, Teddiursa were also found at Mt. Silver Cave.

In FireRed and LeafGreen, Teddiursa would appear at the Altering Cave with use of an e-card. In Emerald, it was also uncommonly found at the Safari Zone's extension. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they could be caught using the dual slot method, and they appeared uncommonly at Route 211 (both sides in Diamond/Pearl but only the western side in Platinum) and Acuity Lakefront (or Lake Acuity in Platinum) when Emerald was in the GBA slot.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Teddiursa could be snagged from Spy Naps at Pokémon HQ Lab, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. They also appeared in the "Berry Tree" e-Reader game, where two Teddiursa caught the berries which Ursaring shook down from a tree. In Pokémon Channel, they appeared at Camp Starlight on Monday nights. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Phobos Walker, Endless Level 29, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, they could be recruited at the first three floors of Silent Chasm and the twenty-sixth through thirtieth floors Joyous Tower, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness, they were found at the first thirteen basement floors of Mystifying Forest and the first twenty-nine basement floors of Mystery Jungle.

In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Teddiursa was found at Dolce Island, Old Mansion and Fire Temple. Teddiursa also appeared in PokéPark Wii: PIkachu's Adventure at the Iceberg Zone, Cavern Zone, Flower Zone and the Meeting Place.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Teddiursa was first featured in the second movie as one of Molly's Pokémon. A Teddiursa was also featured in one episode of the Johto series in which it acted cute to get trainers to let their guard down and then stole their fruit. It tricked Ash's group as well as Team Rocket until Ash's group caught onto it, and it evolved into Ursaring after being found out. In a Hoenn episode, Team Rocket kidnapped a Teddiursa and disguised it as a Spinda for use as bait in a Spinda trap, but this wound up attracting the wrath of its Ursaring parent. Teddiursa have also made various minor appearances throughout the anime's run.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, one chapter featured Gold helping Kurt's granddaughter to catch a Teddiursa with a Friend Ball as thanks for giving him food.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "teddy" (which is short for "teddy bear", the name applied to the popular stuffed bear) with "ursa" (which is Latin for "bear").
