Sneasel is a weasel-like Pokémon introduced in the second generation Pokémon games. It originally had no evolutionary line, until it was discovered to evolve into Weavile in the fourth generation games.

Information[edit]

Sneasel is a vicious Pokémon resembling a blue anthropomorphic weasel that hides sharp, hooked claws within its paws. It extends its claws suddenly when attacked to startle its enemy, and these claws can rip up vulnerable spots of a Sneasel's prey. It is said that they will not stop attacking until their enemy is incapable of moving.

They can also used their hooked claws to scale trees, seeking out unguarded nests to steal eggs from. They also drive Pidgey away form their nest to steal their eggs, as eggs seem to a main part of their diet. They are known for being smart and sneaky, as sometimes a pair of Sneasel will work together in stealing eggs. They seem to prefer frigid environments and are mostly nocturnal.

Sneasel will evolve into Weavile when it levels up at night while holding the Razor Claw item.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, HeartGold and SoulSilver they are uncommonly found at Route 28 and Silver Cave at night. In Crystal, they instead appear within the Ice Path at night and are rarer. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Sneasel also appeared at Mt. Silver uncommonly at night, and within Mt. Silver Cave at all times of day. Sneasel could also be caught at the Icy Mountain Rd. course of the Pokéwalker and then transferred from there to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

In LeafGreen, Sneasel are rarely found in the Icefall Cave. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they are more commonly found at Routes 216 and 217, Acuity Lakefront, Lake Acuity and Snowpoint Temple. In Black and White, they were uncommonly found at Giant Chasm.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Sneasel can be snagged from Rider Nelis in The Under, and ater being purified, this Sneasel could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, Sneasel could be found at Endless Level 53, Endless Level 66, Forever Level 3 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, they were found on the first four flights of Buried Relic. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, they are found on the first twenty floors of Blizzard Island, the first ten basement floors of Crevice Cave, the first four basement floors of Lower Crevice Cave and the first nineteen basement floors of Mt. Avalanche. Sneasel could also be found at Panula Cave and Sekra Mountain Range in Pokémon Ranger, and at Almia Castle in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, they were found at Mt. Sorbet and Ice Temple. Sneasel also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventures at the Iceberg Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • Several Sneasel have appeared throughout the anime, starting with the fourth movie where one was used by the antagonist, the Iron-Masked Marauder. Others have appeared in several trainer's rosters in the anime, including Harrison who caught one that blocked the way to the flame of Ho-Oh. During the Sinnoh series, one episode had a female Sneasel trying to break up a feud between a pair of Weavile, and a Sneasel was also part of Candice's roster during her gym battle with Ash.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Sneasel is one of the main Pokémon used by Silver and also seems to be his first Pokémon. It eventually evolved into Weavile by the HeartGold/SoulSilver arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "sneaky" and "weasel", and may also be a play on "sneeze".
