Yoshi's Island DS (originally referred to as Yoshi's Island 2 until not long before the game's release) is the Nintendo DS sequel to Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Unlike Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Island DS acts as a more direct sequel as it uses the same engine as well as similar gameplay and graphics, and a continuation of the first game's story.

Story[edit]

After being foiled in the last game, Kamek has started kidnapping even more babies. However, Baby Mario and Baby Peach have been saved by the stork, at which point they have been discovered by the same tribe of Yoshis. The Yoshis work together to try to stop Kamek and save the other babies.

Gameplay[edit]

The gameplay is nearly identical to the original Yoshi's Island, with the main additions being a second screen and new babies. The player controls Yoshi in carrying one of the babies to the end of the level. Yoshi can switch babies at special stork areas, although at the beginning only Baby Mario and Baby Peach are available. The other babies, obtained later in the game, are Baby Donkey Kong, Baby Wario and Baby Bowser (although the latter two are only playable in several levels and are believed to have been tossed in at a late stage of production).

Sequels[edit]

It was followed by Yoshi's New Island for the Nintendo 3DS. This game returns to only using Baby Mario and is actually set before Yoshi's Island DS on the timeline.
