Serra is a playable unit in all three stories of Fire Emblem and is the first healing unit in the game. She is a cleric known for her bossy, self-worshiping attitude.
Background[edit]
Serra was born to the family of an Etrurian count. However, due to some dispute about the family status and succession of titles, Serra's parents decided to send her away to an orphanage in Ostia when she was only a child. The orphanage was run-down, but Serra continued to assure herself that her parents had sent her there for her own good, that they were good people and would come back for her some day. Serra also developed a sharp wit and a self-serving attitude. She caused irritation for many around her, but she also became a skilled cleric serving the royal court of Ostia.
When Serra first appeared in "Chapter Five: Beyond the Borders" of Fire Emblem, she was being escorted to Ostia by the mage Erk. The two bickered often and got lost by the border separating Bern from Lycia, at which point they were attacked by the Ganelon bandits, who confused them with members of Lyn's band of mercenaries. The real Lyn and her group soon arrived to help them, and together they defeated the bandits. After learning that Lyn was of noble birth, Serra decided to join her group (and dragged Erk along with her) so she could have a person of power in her debt. Strangely enough she did not notice Matthew, a spy for Ostia who was also in Lyn's group. After Lyn's journey was complete, Erk completed his task of escorting Serra to Ostia. However, her companions missed her behavior and sharp tongue.
One year later, Serra was still with House Ostia when Lord Uther deployed Oswin to escort Hector and keep him safe during the adventure Hector had embarked on with Eliwood. Serra convinced Oswin to let her come too. They eventually met up with Hector and Matthew by "Chapter 12: Birds of a Feather". Hector urged Serra and Matthew to stay out of battle. In the Hector's Tale version, they enter the battle anyway, but in Eliwood's Tale they stay out and are not playable until the following chapter, "Chapter 13: In Search of Truth". Serra remained with Eliwood and Hector for the remainder of their journeys.
Possible Fates[edit]
Serra has four different endings depending on which characters she reaches an A-Rank Support with.
- Default Ending- Serra returns to Ostia and spends much time attending to her own affairs, but she later begins to enjoy her free time.
- Erk and Serra's Ending- Serra later leaves her post at Ostia, instead deciding to "live for love" with Erk.
- Matthew and Serra's Ending- It is uncertain whether a lasting relationship developed between the two. However, Matthew was able to find relief during his hectic times serving Hector and his thoughts of Serra helping the pain of losing Leila to become slightly more bearable.
- Oswin and Serra's Ending- After returning to Ostia, Oswin gained many new responsibilities. However, Serra constantly appeared to bother him until she finally won over his heart and distracted him from his overwhelming work.
Support Conversation Summaries[edit]
Serra is capable of having Support conversations with seven other characters.
- Erk- In the first conversation, Serra tries to find some way to talk Erk into becoming her servant, but he ignores her and walks away. In the second conversation, Serra makes Erk protect her and claims that she is practically the leader of the army, having Eliwood and Hector "captured by her charms". Erk says that she actually envies her. In the third Support conversation, Serra tells Erk that she is always around Erk because only she understood his "dark, secretive personality", and if she was not there to look after him he would probably get killed. Erk then says similarly to Serra that she's so annoying, he looks after her because no one would probably look for her if she disappeared.
- Florina- Florina comes to Serra seeking help. She wants Serra to teach her how to be more assertive and less scared of men so that she could be more useful in battle. Serra tries teaching her to overcome her shyness, but when Florina cannot do it, Serra comes to the conclusion that not everyone can be like her. She confides in Florina that she is actually an Etrurian noblewoman. Florina and Serra decided to remain friends.
- Hector- In the first conversation, Serra demands that Hector thank her for coming on the journey even though Hector had ordered her to remain in Ostia, but Hector refuses to thank her for disobeying orders. Serra demands better treatment due to being the only sister in the army, but Hector considers replacing her. In the second conversation, Hector asks Serra if anyone could use a staff of St. Elimine, and Serra wound up telling Hector about her noble heritage and her childhood. In the final conversation, Hector finds that the orphanage was the one in Ostia which was rebuilt when Uther became marquess. Serra recounts how harsh her life was but also spoke of her hopes that her parents would return for her. Hector tells Serra that she could talk to him or Oswin if she ever needed anything, and he told her they would be her family until her real parents returned.
- Lucius- In the first Support conversation, Serra approached Lucius and told him that the reason she hadn't spoken to him before was because she tried to avoid befriending girls that were even cuter than she was. This prompted Lucius to meekly correct Serra by telling her she was a man. In the second conversation, Serra felt dizzy that such a "beautiful man" could exist and began admiring him. In the third Support conversation, Serra found out that Lucius was from Etruria (saying she could tell from his blonde hair, even though Lucius said not all Etrurians had blonde hair) and asked him if he was a noble. Lucius then told her about his parents and how he was sent to an orphanage after they were killed. Lucius than asked Serra why she was crying, and she said that it was because she was raised in a convent. Lucius said that they had both suffered very much and must have been destined to meet by St. Elimine. Lucius said he was grateful to St. Elimine for bringing her to his side, and Serra said she was grateful as well.
- Matthew- In the first conversation, Serra tries coercing Matthew into protecting her, but Matthew insists that he is a thief and does not get involved in brawls. She promises to heal Matthew if he gets hurt, at which point he asks her if she follows some evil dark god instead of St. Elimine. In the second conversation, Serra rants on about her wishes for her own vassals and what tasks she would make them do, while Matthew sees no need for vassals for himself. In the final conversation, Serra complains that Hector ignored her when she requested her own vassals, and Matthew actually agrees with her and mentions how Hector had ignored his own request (which seemed to be to separate him from Serra). Serra says that the two of them should make their complaints to Hector together, and Matthew notes to himself that Serra is actually pretty good looking if she'd just shut up.
- Oswin- Oswin catches Serra in the middle of a self-serving prayer and comments on it being unorthodox, then he tells Serra that she must report to the front lines because it is an important battle. He says that Oswin and Serra, as Hector's retainers, had to be at his side in the important battle. In the second conversation, Oswin criticizes Serra for her behavior, saying that her words and actions are bad for morale. He tells her that her lack of control is harming others, so she should exercise some discipline. In the final conversation, Serra is at first silent, and when Oswin asks her what's wrong, she tells him that she thinks he hates her and despite her efforts to talk to him, all he ever does is tell her she's wrong. But Oswin assures her that no one hates her, and many of the soldiers are quite taken with her, including the enemies, which is why Oswin asked her to lay low. Serra takes this as a declaration of love and ponders how she should respond despite her vow of chasity and the age gap between the two.
- Sain- Sain makes his attempts at talking Serra into going out with him, but Serra remains coy about her answer. In the second Support conversation, she brags to Sain about how advance fashion is in Ostia. And in the third Support conversation, Serra and Sain gossip about whether Lyn will end up with Eliwood or Hector. Serra ultimately decides on Hector, and when Sain tries to ask Serra which girls like him, Serra says that she knows who does but won't tell him because she thinks he's gross for hitting on every girl he meets.
