Swinub is a shaggy pig-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. Its evolved form is Piloswine, and it was discovered to have a third form, Mamoswine, in the fourth generation games.
Information[edit]
Swinub is a Pokémon with a very sensitive nose that it uses to dig for food. Its nose is tough enough that not even the icy ground can bother it. They can locate mushrooms and hot springs after rubbing their noses against the ground, and Swinub have even discovered hot springs. When a Swinub smells something enticing, it will dash off headlong to the aroma's source. Swinub's favorite food is a mushroom that grows under dead grass.
Swinub evolves into Piloswine at Level 33.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Swinub appeared somewhat commonly at Ice Path. They could also be caught at the Icy Mountain Rd. course of the Pokéwalker, from which they could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.
In FireRed and LeafGreen, they appeared commonly at Icefall Cave. In Diamond and Pearl, they appeared at Route 217 only during swarms. In Platinum, Swinub appeared normally at Route 217 and could also be found at Acuity Lakefront.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Swinub could be snagged from Cipher Peon Greck at Phenac City, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. It also appears in the "Harvest Time" e-Reader game where it takes the fruit which Aipom fails to catch. In Pokémon Channel, it appeared at Mt. Snowfall at all times of day during snowy weather. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at SOL Laboratory, Endless Level 34, Forever Level 4 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Swinub could be recruited at the first three floors of Sinister Woods and the seventeenth through twenty-fifth floors of Wish Cave, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it was recruitable at the first ten basement floors of Crevice Cave, the first four basement floors of Lower Crevice Cave, Mt. Avalanche and Final Maze.
In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at Panula Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Swinub was found in Crysta Cave. Swinub also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Layuda Island and the Ice Temple.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, a trio of Swinub were first featured in an episode of the Johto series in which a girl and her father used them to search for hot springs. One Sinnoh episode had a different trainer who was a childhood friend of Dawn's and owned three Swinub of her own that helped with her hot spring. Dawn caught her own Swinub later in the series after she found the hungry yet excitable creature at Mr. Backlot's mansion. It evolved some time later while battling Team Rocket (and eventually became a Mamoswine). Other Swinub have made primarily minor appearances throughout the anime.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Swinub was featured as one of Pryce's Pokémon which he usually kept resting on his lap. It actually wound up trapped in time with him at the end of the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc.
