Bayleef is a matured form of Chikorita that was introduced in the second generation Pokémon games. It is the middle form of Chikorita's evolutionary line and evolves into Meganium.

Information

Evolving from Chikorita at Level 16, Bayleef resembles a type of brontosaurus-like dinosaur or lizard moreso than its previous form. One of its new features is a circle of rolled-up leaves around its neck. These contain species which exude a scent that can make one want to fight, become energetic, and restore health. Each leaf contains a small shoot of tree. The leaf on its forehead also becomes longer to resemble a horn or tribal decoration, although it is unknown if this leaf has special properties.

Bayleef later evolves into Meganium at Level 32.

In all the color versions, it can only be obtained through evolution unless it is transferred from Pokémon Colosseum.

Other Games

In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Bayleef could be snagged from a Cipher Peon in Phenac City, or later in the game if the player instead chooses to fight one of the other two peons (who have Shadow versions of the other second generation starter's first evolutions). After being purified, this Bayleef could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, Bayleef could be found at Endless Levels 9 and 26, Endless Level 58 and Mr. Who's Lair.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Bayleef can be found on the twentieth through twenty-seventh floors of Western Cave, and in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Space and Time, it appears at the first thirteen basement floors of Mystifying Forest as well as the first twenty-nine basement floors of Mystery Jungle. In Pokémon Ranger, Bayleef is found in the Olive Jungle, while in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it is found at the Old Mansion and Dark Temple. Bayleef was also found in Pokémon Rumble Blast at the Volcanic Slope.

Other Appearances

• In the Pokémon anime, Ash's Chikorita evolved into a Bayleef over the course of the Johto episodes, and was notable as the only Pokémon with him that evolved during that saga. It also did not evolve further, but won significant victories for Ash, such as defeating Harrison's Houndoom at the Silver Conference, and was left with Professor Oak afterwards along with the rest of the Pokémon he had used. Casey's Chikorita was also shown to have evolved into a Bayleef during one episode and later evolved into a Meganium between episodes.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Crystal's Chikorita evolves into a Bayleef during the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc while defending Crystal from a wild Larvitar. It was shown to be unable to control its Sweet Scent ability, which made Lickitung flock around it. Bayleef and the other starters later evolves into their final forms during their battle with Lugia at the Whirl Islands.
