Wicke is a Pokémon conservationist who was appeared as a supporting character in the seventh generation games of the Pokémon series: Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. She is the assistant branch chief of the Aether Foundation.
Background[edit]
Wicke was a kind-hearted woman who worked under Faba as the assistant branch chief of the Aether Foundation, which was overall led by Lusamine. She was often given tasks by Faba, who also insisted that she refer to him with his formal title. Wicke took Aether's conservation work seriously and sought to do her best for the Pokémon in the organization's care. She also seemed to be concerned about Lusamine's troubling behavior over time and the effect that it had on her kids. After Gladion ran away from Aether Paradise, Wicke looked after Lillie and later helped her to plan her escape from Aether Paradise with Nebby the Cosmog. Wicke recommended that Lillie seek out Professor Burnet, who was researching Ultra Wormholes.
During the events of the seventh generation games, Wicke was first seen when Faba brought Elio/Selene and Hau to Aether Paradise as gratitude for them saving him from Team Skull thugs. Faba had Wicke give the trainers a tour of the complex, and she took the chance to thank the young trainers for the good work that she heard they had been doing on Akala Island. After giving them a tour of the grounds, Wicke took them to meet Lusamine, but the meeting was disrupted by the temporary appearance of an Ultra Beast. After the Ultra Beast retreated, Lusamine had Wicke see the young trainers off. Wicke then brought them to a ferry that would take them to Ula'ula Island. Before they left, she gave Hau some malasadas and gave Elio/Selene TM29: Psychic. Elio/Selene and Hau would later return to Aether Paradise with Gladion after Lusamine succeeded in capturing Lillie and Nebby. Relieved to see Gladion again, Wicke healed the young trainers' Pokémon and told them where she suspected Lillie was. She also asked Elio/Selene to look after Gladion, because she knew how he could get when he was worked up. After Lusamine went into Ultra Space, Wicke checked up on Lillie, Elio/Selene, Hau and Gladion, and she had beds prepared for them in case they needed rest.
Her later appearances differ depending on the version.
Sun/Moon[edit]
After Lusamine was saved from Ultra Space, Lillie took her to the Kanto region in hopes of finding help with curing her from Bill. As a favor of Lillie, Wicke explained the full details of her departure and reasoning to Elio/Selene. She also remarked that while she was sad when Gladion and Lillie left Aether Paradise, she was proud of how they had matured. Wicke then apologized for talking too much about them by giving Elio/Selene a pair of Big Malasadas. Afterwards, she sought to atone for the Aether Foundation's role in unleashing the Ultra Beasts upon Alola by coordinating Aether's resources to help the International Police to track the Ultra Beasts down, so that Elio/Selene could subdue them. Wicke provided them with confidential information on the Ultra Beasts and a steady supply of Beast Balls that the company had secretly manufactured. After all of the Ultra Beasts were captured, Wicke congratulated Elio/Selene and Anabel for their efforts. Looker burst in, claiming to have seen an Ultra Beast, but Wicke assured her that there were no more signs of Ultra Beasts in the area. She felt sure that Looker must have been seeing things due to being tired from all their work, unaware that he had actually seen Necrozma.
Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon[edit]
Wicke was entrusted with a Type: Null and all of the memory drives for its evolution by Gladion before he departed for Kanto, to pass on to Elio/Selene. After seeing Gladion off on his journey, Wicke could be found at the Ancient Poni Path. After congratulating Elio/Selene for becoming Alola's champion, she gave Big Malasadas to both Elio/Selene and Hau, and she also gave the Type: Null and drives to Elio/Selene. She also pointed them towards the Ultra Recon Squad.
During the Episode RR scenario, Aether Paradise was taken over by Team Rainbow Rocket, and Lusamine was captured by them. Wicke explained the situation to Elio/Selene and Lillie when they arrived, and she gave them each a Big Malasada while trying to figure out how to fight back on her end and wondering where Faba had disappeared to. After Team Rainbow Rocket was defeated and Faba's treachery revealed, Wicke thanked them for their efforts and gave them 55 Big Nuggets that Team Rainbow Rocket had hidden in the president's room to use as their funding. She also expressed her doubt that Faba would be returning to his old position anytime soon.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Wicke made recurring appearances during the Sun/Moon arc as a member of the Aether Foundation. She and other Aether members helped to form and run the Ultra Guardians. She later made an appearance in a Pokémon Journeys episode, in which she and Faba provided commentary during a battle royal between Ash, Kukui, Gladion and Kiawe.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, she appeared during the Sun/Moon arc and spent much of it trying to find Lusamine.
Trivia[edit]
- She is named after the German word for "vetch", a type of flowering plant.
- Faba ends up being demoted in all versions of the game, but it is never made clear if Wicke gets his old position or any kind of promotion from her original position.
