Miltank is a sturdy cow-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It has no evolutionary line, but it is considered to be the female counterpart to Tauros.

Information[edit]

Miltank is a large Pokémon that produces over five gallons of milk daily. The milk, known as MooMoo Milk, is packed with nutrition, making it the ultimate beverage for the sick or weary. The milk contains more proteins than usual if the Miltank in question had given birth recently or is around babies. Children and adults both enjoy the milk, and those that do not like milk usually ingest it in yogurt form. Children drinking MooMoo Milk are said to grow into healthy adults. The actual process of milking the Miltank requires a knack for rhythmically pulling up and down on the utters.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Miltank could be rarely found at Routes 38 and 39, and in Crystal they did not appear at night. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Miltank also appeared more commonly at Route 47. Nonplayable Miltank were also present at the MooMoo Farm, particularly one which provided milk if it was fed enough berries.

In Emerald, Miltank could be rarely found at the Safari Zone's extension. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could appear when the Pokéradar was used at Routes 209 and 210 (210 only in Platinum).

Other Games[edit]

A Shadow Miltank could be snagged from Bodybuilder Jomas at Realgam Tower in Pokémon Colosseum, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Endless Level 10, Endless Level 13, Forever Level 59 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Miltank could be recruited at Western Cave, where it appeared at every tenth floor in the first forty floors, the fiftieth through fifty-third floors and the sixtieth through ninety-eighth floors. It could also be recruited in Explorers of Time and Darkness at the first nineteen basement floors of Marine Resort and the first seventeen floors of Shimmer Hill. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Chroma Road. A Miltank could also be acquired in a random trade with Hayley in My Pokémon Ranch, for transfer to Diamond or Pearl (or Platinum in Japan).

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Miltank appeared as a Novice-rank Support Spirit that could grant the Instadrop ability. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Miltank's Spirit would possess a Jigglypuff and focus on using a more powerful version of its Rollout move.

Other Media[edit]

  • Miltank was first featured in the Pokémon anime as one of Whitney's Pokémon during the Johto-era episodes she appeared in. Another episode within the Johto series featured a wild Miltank which guarded the path to a sanctuary in the middle of some badlands, and the episode notably included a scene where Cyndaquil and Meowth drank milk from its udder which wound up being cut out of the American dub. An episode of the Sinnoh series also featured several maids who owned Miltank at a farm.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Miltank was introduced in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc as Whitney's main Pokémon which she used in her race against Gold and all of her battles. Eusine also pretended to heal a Miltank in order to claim he had performed a miracle when he had actually slipped it a berry.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a truncation of "milk tank" due to the role it plays in containing milk.
  • Oddly enough, its Pokédex entries for Silver and FireRed imply that Miltank gives live birth when it, like all other Pokémon, has Pokémon through eggs within the game. SoulSilver's entry may be an attempt to remove the contradiction as it claims that just being around babies makes its milk more nutritious.
