Mario Party 2 is a Super Mario-themed party game that was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. It is the first of many sequels to Mario Party.
Story[edit]
Mario and his friends have just worked together to build a new land, called Mario Land. However, Wario intervenes and demands that the land be renamed Wario Land. This causes everyone else involved, even Princess Peach to demand the land be named after themselves. During their arguing, Bowser begins wreaking havoc throughout the new land. Toad convinces Mario and friends to quit their bickering, and instead they decide to make defeating Bowser into a competition; whoever succeeds in defeating Bowser will be named the Superstar and will have the land named after them.
Gameplay[edit]
As in the previous game, up to four players compete in exploring board games. The point is to collect as many coins as possible, which could be used to purchase stars. Stars and coins were essential in winning games. At the end of each turn, the players competed in minigames for more coins. This game removed the one-player minigames as well as the minigames which required the player to rotate the control stick quickly. This game also brought in a Battle Games, where players gambled coins on special minigames; Item minigames, where a single player could earn items instead of coins; and a Duel minigame, which pitted two players against each other.
The game contained a variety of boards all with unique themes. Additionally, minigames could be purchased and played at the Minigame Island. The Minigame Island also contained other methods of playing minigames in the form of the Minigame Stadium and the new Minigame Coaster.
