Farfetch'd is a rare duck-like Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation Pokémon games.

Information

Farfetch'd is always seen wielding what is alternately referred to as a sprig of green onions, a plant stalk or a stick from a plant. This is its primary weapon which it uses as if it were a metal sword. There is a difference between good sticks and bad sticks to this Pokémon, and some of them fight each other over the sticks. They also use the stalk to build its nest. If anyone tries to disturb the area where their essential plant sticks grow, they will use their own sticks to fend the offender off. This is said to be because Farfetch'd cannot live without this object; it will immediately go in search of a new stick if forced to eat its current own as emergency rations.

Over the years, Farfetch'd have been noted to be seen in declining numbers, and it is believed that they have become an endangered species. This has caused increased efforts to breed Farfetch'd in order to keep the species going. They primarily live where reedy plants grow.

Mainstream Games

In Red, Blue, FireRed and LeafGreen, Farfetch'd could only be obtained by trading a Dugtrio to a trainer in Vermilion City. In Yellow, they instead rarely appeared at Routes 12 and 13.

In Gold, Silver, HeartGold and SoulSilver, they commonly appeared on Routes 38 and 39. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they were also found at Routes 47 and 48 as well as the Safari Zone's Wetland area. In Crystal, they instead only appeared at Route 43. In all the games of this generation, Farfetch'd could only be found in the morning and daytime. A non-catchable Farfetch'd also appears at Azalea Town belonging to the charcoal makers and is notable in that the player has to chase it through Ilex Forest after it runs away to return it to its owners and earn HM 01: Cut.

In Diamond, Pearl and Platium, they appeared at Route 221 in swarms. They also appeared in Black and White in swarms at Route 1.

Other Games

In Pokémon Pinball, they appeared at Vermilion City Seaside and Vermilion City Streets. In the Pokémon set of e-Reader cards, Farfetch'd was featured in the Leek Game minigame where the player controlled a Farfetch'd protecting leeks from other Pokémon. In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Farfetch'd could be snagged from Lovrina at Citadark Isle. Once purified, this Farfetch'd could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions.

In Pokémon Trozei!, Farfetch'd was found at Secret Storage 6, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Farfetch'd could be recruited at the first three floors of Silent Chasm, the first six floors of Pitfall Valley, the twenty-third through twenty-seventh floors of Joyous Tower and the first six basement floors of Remains Island. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, they appeared at the first six floors of Steam Cave and the first floors of Upper Steam Cave. It also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Windy Prairie. In PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, Farfetch'd appeared at the Lava Zone.

Video Games

• In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Farfetch'd appeared as a Novice-rank Support Spirit which allowed a player fighter to start a battle with the Lip's Stick item automatically equipped. When fought against in a Spirit battle, the Spirit of Farfetch'd would possess Falco Lombardi and fight with a Lip's Stick.

Other Media

• Farfetch'd was featured in one episode of the Pokémon anime during the Kanto series, where it belonged to a thief who used it as part of his con game because he thought it was too weak to battle. The trainer eventually learned how strong his Farfetch'd really was and reformed. A later episode in the Johto series revolved around a Farfetch'd who disobeyed its trainer and ran away, but it was pursued by Team Rocket who wanted to eat it. The trainer and Farfetch'd were able to work together by the end of the episode to defeat Team Rocket. Farfetch'd have also shown up in other episodes throughout the series usually in the possession of certain trainers. The anime is also notable in specifying overhunting of Farfetch'd for food as the reason for their low numbers, which is a rare case of a Pokémon being confirmed to be eaten by humans.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Farfetch'd made a brief appearance in the possession of a boy at Azalea Town in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc. Bill was later shown using a Farfetch'd as transportation within the same arc.

Trivia

• Its name is a play on the phrase "far fetched", which refers to something that is hard to believe.
