Wario Land: Shake It! is a game in the Wario series. It is the first game to use the Wario Land name since Wario Land 4 which was released in 2001.

Story

Inside of an Ancient Globe stored inside a museum there exists another world known as the Shake Dimension. The peaceful world has been invaded by the evil pirate, the Shake King and imprisoned Queen Merelda and her subjects, as well as stealing the legendary treasure, a purse that spits out coins when it is shaken. After Captain Syrup learns of this, she decides she wants the treasure for herself. But rather than go after it herself, she tricks Wario into going after the treasure instead.

Gameplay

Despite being on the Wii console, the game is a 2D platformer with a play style similar to the rest of the Land series. Though Wario has been shown to use a few of his old 'powerup' moves (such as Snowball Wario), most of the action is performed by Wario's ability to shake his enemies down, which is performed by shaking the actual Wii Remote. This can be used to shake money or garlic out of treasure bags or enemies. It also allows Wario to use a ground pound move to disorient surrounding foes.

The game is broken up into five worlds. Each world contains four normal stages, a secret unlockable stage, and a boss. Like in most games, there is money and treasure chests spread throughout the levels. At the end of each level is an imprisoned Merfle. Once freed, Wario has to flee to the beginning of the level to escape, similar to the levels in Wario Land 4.

As an extra incentive for replayability, each stage has a number of missions for Wario to complete. These missions can range from beating the stage within a time limit, collecting a certain amount of gold, not getting hurt, defeating a 'golden enemy', or performing some unique task like not defeating any enemies. Doing this will unlock the stage's music so it can be listened to in the Media Room.

Information

The story itself is told through animated cutscenes produced by the company Production_I.G., an anime studio noted for their work on series such as Ghost in a Shell, Namco's Tales series, and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

Shake It! will be the first time the Land series has even been released on a home console, though an earlier game, Wario World, had been released on the Gamecube (as well as multiple games in the WarioWare series on the Gamecube and Wii). It also marks the return of Captain Syrup, the only one of Wario's antagonists to have appeared more than once. She will be making her third appearance after having not appeared since 1998 in her last role, Wario Land II.
