Queen Merelda is the ruler of the Shake Dimension. She plays the damsel in distress for Wario Land: Shake It!.

Background

In the beginning of Shake It!, Queen Merelda is shown being held captive by the Shake King on the Shakedown Schooner. Her Merfle subjects have been locked up in a cage, save for one green Merfle. Following his victory the Shake King gloated about his victory, particularly in taking the kingdom's treasure, the Bottomless Coin Sack that would produce coins every time it was shaken. He also savored his capture of the enchanting young queen. Even despite her disdain of him, he found her to still be beautiful. Despite locking up the Merfles across the world, he kept Queen Merelda close at hand.

Her savior would eventually come when Wario came looking for the Bottomless Coin Sack. After freeing the Merfle subjects, the greedy anti-hero fought the Shake King. Their battle eventually led to the hold where Merelda was being held, but Wario was quickly warped away to fight the Shake King elsewhere. Following Wario's victory, he was greeted by an extremely grateful Queen Merelda. She expressed her thanks for rescuing her and restoring peace to the Shake Dimension. Before she could say anything, she was violently grabbed by Wario and subsequently thrown out of the way so he could get to the Bottomless Coin Sack. She was not seen again, though she likely returned to ruling her kingdom afterward, only now without the Shake Dimension's most valued treasure.

Trivia

• Queen Merelda is not the first damsel-in-distress rescued by Wario. She was preceded by Princess Shokora in Wario Land 4. Tiaramisu also tried to get on Wario's good side in Wario: Master of Disguise. Like in other cases, Wario's interest in women is superseded by his extreme greed for monetary wealth.
