Debut WarioWare: Smooth Moves

Young Cricket and Master Mantis are characters introduced in WarioWare: Smooth Moves. As with most characters introduced since the first game, it is uncertain whether or not they developed microgames for WarioWare, Inc.

Background[edit]

Young Cricket is a young martial artist who trains under the elderly Master Mantis. Master Mantis trained him in the mountains in all types of weather. Cricket has strong youthful energy but will often enter situations without fully thinking things through in his eagerness.

Within Smooth Moves, they are featured in the episode "Enter Young Cricket" where Young Cricket and Master Mantis become hungry while walking through Diamond City, before seeing a long line of people lined up by dumpling stand run by Mona. Young Cricket initially made his way to the stand by running on the heads of the people in line, but as he was making his order he realized what he had done in both cutting in line and angering everyone else in the line, so he ran on the heads of the people to the back of the line and suggested that he and Master Mantis get in line.

In WarioWare: D.I.Y., they appear and run the Assembly Dojo that is hidden underneath WarioWare. In Game & Wario, they are featured as the hosts of the Kung Fu minigame, where the player controls Young Cricket in jumping between platforms.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Young Cricket has been represented by a sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and a Novice-rank Support Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. His Spirit's Support effect is to slightly raise the power of Lucario's Aura attacks. When fought in a Spirit battle, Cricket's Spirit would possess Lucario and focus on dashing attacks.
  • In Rhythm Heaven Megamix, they are featured in the "Wario... Where?" version of the Munchy Monk minigame. Master Mantis takes the place of the monk who is the playable protagonist of the game, which is based around accepting and eating dumplings. Young Cricket is riding a cloud through the sky in the background.

Trivia[edit]

  • Their Smooth Moves microgames use the Tug-of-War, Waiter and Elephant forms.
  • Young Mantis is apparently a student of the We-Yu-Ken style and recently mastered it.
  • According to his Game & Wario information, Master Mantis has mastered countless fighting styles, is popular with the ladies and has his own fan club.
  • A Mona Superscoop in Game & Wario also shows that one of Master Mantis's hobbies is painting.
