Chingling is a floating bell-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It was introduced as the pre-evolved form of the third generation Pokémon Chimecho.

Information

Chingling only hatch from eggs laid by Chimecho when one of the parents is holding Pure Incense. It moves with flouncing hops and makes a ringing sound with each hop. Chingling emits cries by agitating an orb at the back of its throat, and its high-frequency cries can deafen foes, although it is also high-frequency enough that people cannot hear it. Once it starts, it can cry for an unusually long time.

It evolves into Chimecho when it levels up with a high amount of happiness at night.

In Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Versions, Chingling was uncommonly found at Route 211, Lake Acuity, Lake Valor and Mt. Coronet. In Platinum, it instead appeared at Route 211, Mt. Coronet, Sendoff Spring and Turnback Cave.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it would appear at Route 47's Cliff Cave, Dark Cave, Union Cave, Slowpoke Well, Mt. Mortar, Whirl Islands, Ice Path, Tohjo Falls, Victory Road, Rock Tunnel, Diglett's Cave, Mt. Moon, Seafoam Islands, Cerulean Cave, Mt. Silver and Mt. Silver Cave when playing Sinnoh Sound on the radio. Chingling could also appear at the Safari Zone's Mountain area when enough Forest objects were present. It could also be caught at the Pokéwalker's Quiet Cave and White Lake courses, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

Other Games

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Chingling could be recruited at the third through sixth basement floors of Drenched Bluff. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Crysta Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Oblivia Ruins and the Forest Temple. Chingling also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Eternal Tower.

• Chingling have appeared in several episodes of the Pokémon anime, mostly with minor roles during the Sinnoh series. One episode featured a magician who has a trio of immature Chingling that helped her with her acts, and Ash's group helped them to mature. In another episode, Chingling was one of the Pokémon belonging to Marilyn, a trainer who only used Pokémon that she considered to be cute.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Chingling appeared in several chapters of the Diamond/Pearl arc belonging to a Team Galactic grunt, and it engaged in a sound battle with Diamond's Chatot.

Trivia

• Its name is taken from the onomatopoeia for ringing a bell, and the usage of the suffix "-ling" due to it being a young Pokémon.
