Chimecho is a floating wind chime-based Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It originally had no evolutionary line, but the fourth generation later introduced Chingling as its baby form.

Information[edit]

Chingling can only be born to a Chimecho parent if it is holding Pure Incense during breeding, and it evolves into Chimecho when it levels up with a high amount of happiness at night. Chimecho has a hollow body and travels by riding on winds. They have seven different and distinguishing cries which they use to communicate with each other. Chimecho can cries echo inside its body to confuse and startle others, and when one is enraged it can create ultrasonic cries that send foes flying. Chimecho's body has a sucker on its head which it uses latch onto tree branches or eaves of a house during high winds, and they also have long tails which are used to grab nuts and berries. Chimecho are most active during hot seasons.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Chimecho could only be rarely found at the summit of Mt. Pyre. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they appeared uncommonly or rarely at Mt. Coronet, as well as at Sendoff Spring in Diamond/Pearl or Turnback Cave in Platinum. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they could appear at the Safari Zone's Swamp area if enough Forest objects were present. In Black and White, it appeared somewhat commonly at Abundant Shrine.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Chimecho could be hatched from an egg. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Secret Storage 16, Endless Level 2, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the seventh through twelfth floors of Mt. Freeze and the twelfth through seventeenth floors of Solar Cave. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was recruitable at the fifth through fifteenth basement floors of Spacial Rift and the first nine basement floors of Deep Spacial Rift, and a non-playable Chimecho also appeared in the game as a member of the Wigglytuff Guild who prepared the Guild's nightly dinner and ran the Chimecho Assembly.

In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Chimecho could be found at Rasp Cavern, Wireless Tower, Faldera Island, Mt. Sorbet, Layuda Island, Sky Fortress and the Light Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Chimecho was featured in an episode of the Hoenn series where a festival at Fortree City revived James's love for the Pokémon. He was able to catch one in the episode, and it was part of his team for a while. However, James was overprotective of the Pokémon and did not allow it to battle, although Jessie borrowed it for a Pokémon Contest once and abused it. During the Battle Frontier series, the Chimecho developed a fever, so James left it with an old couple at his old vacation home near Saffron City. It is unknown if he ever returned for it. Other Chimecho have made minor appearances, including the Explorers of Time and Darkness one which appeared in the corresponding special.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is simple combination of "chime" (due to its resemblance to wind chimes) and "echo".
  • It specifically resembles a type of Japanese wind chime known as the furin.
