Tropius is a vegetated flying dinosaur-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It has no evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Tropius is a unique type of Pokémon that usually lives in tropical jungles and actually has foliage growing along its body. These include wide, wing-like leaves which Tropius can flap in order to fly. Tropius is known for its love of fruit. They eat the same fruits enough that the creature winds up growing its own favorite fruit along its neck. Tropius's fruit grows and ripens twice a year. These fruits are considered to be a delicacy and have been referred to as a highly favored tropical snack. They are particularly favored by children living in the sourthern tropics. During spring, Tropius also release pollen to the winds.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Tropius uncommonly appeared at Route 119. In Platinum, it could appear somewhat commonly at the Great Marsh, but only during the day. Tropius could also be caught at the Big Forest course of the Pokéwalker, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver. In Black and White, it was found somewhat commonly at Route 14.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Tropius could be snagged from Cipher Peon Ston at Realgam Tower, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it was found at Secret Storage 16, Endless Level 21, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the twenty-second through twenty-fifth floors of Sky Tower, Sky Tower Summit, the twentieth through twenty-ninth floors of Lightning Field and the eighty-sixth through ninety-first floors of Joyous Tower. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was recruitable at the twelfth through fifteenth basement floors of Spacial Rift and the first two basement floors of Deep Spacial Rift. Tropius also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Meadow Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Tropius was featured near the end of the Hoenn series where one belonged to one of Ash's opponents in the Ever Grande Conference. It and Ash's Torkoal eventually knocked each other out. A Battle Frontier episode also featured a wild Tropius that got into several grudge matches with Ash's Grovyle, and Team Rocket made a failed attempt to steal it.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Tropius first appeared in the Ruby/Sapphire arc as part of Sapphire's team. She received it from her father at the beginning of her journey and acted as her flying Pokémon.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a play on "tropical" (due to its habitat) with the "-saurus" suffix (which is commonly used for the names of dinosaurs).
