Starly is a basic bird-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the first in a three-stage evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being Staravia and Staraptor.
Information[edit]
Starly usually flock in great numbers due to how weak and barely noticeable they are individually. However, if their numbers grow too big they are overcome by bickering. Starly usually flock around mountains and fields in pursuit of bug Pokémon which they feed on. Their cries and songs are noisy and annoying. Starly is small but capable of flapping its wings with great power.
Starly evolves into Staravia at Level 14.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Versions, Starly could be commonly found at Routes 201, 202, 203, 204, 209 and 212, the Great Marsh and Lake Verity. In Platinum, it was restricted to Routes 201, 202, 203 and 204 as well as Lake Verity. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Starly could be found only by headbutting a certain tree by Pewter City. In White, it was found at White Forest.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Starly could be recruited at Mt. Bristle and Oran Forest. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was one of the three Pokémon found at the beach near Vientown at the beginning of the game which the player had to choose his partner Pokémon from; if the player chose one of the other two (Pachirisu or Munchlax), then Starly could be recruited later after finding it Hippowdon Temple. The partner Pokémon could be switched between at the Partner Farm in Chicole Village. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at the Sky and the Thunder Temple. In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at Windy Prairie. Starly also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, where it showed up at the Meadow Zone, the Beach Zone and the Iceberg Zone as well as at the Meeting Place.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Ash caught a Starly during the second episode of the Sinnoh series and managed to put it to several uses until it evolved into Staravia a little over ten episodes later. Starly have also made various minor appearances, including one episode where Paul caught several Starly and released them all due to deeming them weak, even one that could easily beat Ash's Starly.
- In the Pokémon Adventure manga, the first chapter of the Diamond/Pearl arc featured Platina being attacked by a flock of Starly, and Diamond and Pearl wound up protecting her.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is simply a play on "starling", the bird it is based on.
- A trophy of Starly appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
