Fearow is a large and intimidating long-necked bird-like Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. It is the evolved form of Spearow.

Information

Spearow evolves into Fearow at Level 20. It enjoys flying, using its broad wings to catch the wind and soar elegantly into the sky. Its wings are large enough to keep it aloft without it having to land and rest for a day. Fearow are known to suddenly shoot themselves high into the sky and then plummet down in one fell swoop to strike their prey. They can be recognized by their long necks and elongated beaks, which are conveniently shaped for catching prey in soil or water.

Fearow primarily attacks with its long and thick beak, which has a surprisingly long reach that causes others to take caution around it.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed and LeafGreen, Fearow are uncommonly found on Routes 17, 18 and 23. In Yellow they also appear on Route 16, while in FireRed and LeafGreen, they also appear at Treasure Beach, Kindle Road, Mt. Ember, Cape Brink, Ruin Valley, Water Path, Canyon Entrance and Sevault Canyon.

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Fearow show up at Routes 9, 10, 17, 18 and 22. In Crystal they also show up at Route 42, while in HeartGold/SoulSilver they also appear at Route 47, Route 48 and the Safari Zone (the Wasteland area as well as the Peak and Desert if enough Forest objects are placed there).

In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, wild Fearow could be commonly found at Routes 225, 226 and 227 as well as Stark Mountain, being less common in Platinum. In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, they were found somewhat commonly at Route 15.

Other Games

Fearow appeared in Pokémon Pinball, where it could be obtained through evolution. In Pokémon Trozei!, Fearow could be obtained at Secret Storage 18, Endless Level 23, Forever Level 23 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams it could only be obtained through evolution, while in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness and Time, they could be found on the first nineteen floors of Mt. Trevail and Mt. Mistral.

They could also be found at the Kiasara Plains in Pokémon Ranger and Haruba Desert in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. In Pokémon Rumble, they appeared at Windy Prairie. In Pokémon Rumble Blast, it was found at Everspring Valley.

• In the Pokémon anime, Fearow was featured in the last episode of the Kanto series when one led the same flock of Spearow that had tormented Ash in the first episode (and was implied to be the evolved form of the same Spearow Ash had hit with a rock). This Fearow was defeated by Ash's newly evolved Pidgeot. Aside from that, Fearow have made various appearances throughout the series, often as briefly-encountered enemies and sometimes being used by other trainers.
• In Pokémon Adventures manga, Red wound up battling a Fearow in one chapter of the Red/Green/Blue arc in order to save a Rattata (which was actually a transformed Bill) from it. He wound up freezing it and then capturing it. He has not used it since, although he has loaned it to Bill so he could travel with it. Professor Oak also has a Spearow that evolved into a Fearow by the time of the FireRed/LeafGreen arc.
• In the Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, Fearow is the first Pokémon Ash catches (not counting Pikachu, his unofficial first) in the first chapter of the manga, where it led the Spearow mob which attacked Ash and Pikachu. Fearow was shown as a powerful Pokémon, but also a lazy one unless it was encouraged with food such as dumplings.
