Valerie is a Gym Leader from Kalos who is featured as an opponent in Pokémon X and Y. She is the sixth Gym Leader who has to be battled and specialized in Fairy-type Pokémon.

Background

Valerie originally hailed from Johto and moved to Kalos at some point, where she became the Gym Leader of the gym in Laverre City and held the Fairy Badge. She worked as a model and a fashion designer in addition to being a Pokémon trainer. Valerie's dream was to become a Pokémon herself, and many of her fashion designs reflected that desire. However, she ultimately only felt at one with Pokémon when they were embroiled in battle together. Valerie was generally very kind to others, but she was also known for being absent-minded and often forgetting what she meant to say. Although she had a gentle nature, she also warned that the strength of Fairy-type Pokémon was not to be underestimated. Her gym was designed to resemble a life-sized dollhouse, with rooms connected by warp panels.

In X/Y, she was challenged and defeated by Calem/Serena. She rewarded them with the Fairy Badge and TM 99: Dazzling Gleam, although she forgot what move the TM had in the moment. She also revealed her dream of becoming a Pokémon to the trainer. Afterwards, Valarie could appear at the Battle Chateau for rematches after the player had obtained the rank of Marquis/Marchioness, as Valerie similarly held the title of Marchioness there.

Pokémon Roster

At the Battle Chateau, she uses only Mawile and Sylveon.

In Other Pokémon Games

In Pokémon Masters, Valerie and her Sylveon appeared together as a playable sync pair. She could be recruited through Chapter 23 of the Main Story. In that episode, Scottie/Bettie's team sought Valerie out for the sake of assessing Clair and Koga's fashion, and it was established that Erika was friends with her. Valerie revealed her dreams of becoming a Pokémon to the group, and also that she wished to meet Elesa. They managed to fulfill her request, and as a result Valerie talked with Elesa about collaborating sometime. Leaf was also present and suggested that they battle Valerie in order to help her become a Pokémon. After Valerie was defeated by Scottie/Bettie's team, Valerie had come to realize that she felt at one with her Pokémon when using sync moves. Valerie then decided to join Scottie/Bettie's team so that she could battle Elesa, who was their team's next opponent in the Pokémon Masters League tournament.
