Bagon is a small but muscular iron-headed reptilian Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the first in a three-stage evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being Shelgon and Salamence.

Information

Bagon is a small Pokémon, but its body is a bundle of muscles, which makes it quite powerful. Bagon also has an iron-hard skull which could be used for powerful headbutts and is capable of smashing boulders into pieces. Still, Bagon long to be able to fly and constantly throw themselves off of cliffs in failed attempts to take flight. These repeated falls have at least helped to temper Bagon's skull and make it so strong in the first place. They often take out their frustration on nearby rocks.

Bagon can evolve into Shelgon at Level 30. It will eventually get the wings it dreams of, but only after it reaches its final form of Salamence, at Level 50.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Bagon appeared somewhat commonly at the innermost area of Meteor Falls. In Pearl and Platinum, they could appear at Route 210 when using the Pokéradar. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at the Safari Zone's Swamp area if enough Rock and Forest objects were present. In White, it was found at the White Forest.

Other Games

Bagon had to be hatched from an egg in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was only found at Huge Storage 5 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the ninth through thirteenth floors of Lapis Cave, the forty-fifth through forty-ninth floors of Wish Cave, the first four floors of Wyvern Hill and the forty-second through forty-fifth floors of Joyous Tower. In Pokémon Ranger, Bagon could be found at the Jungle Relic during the Destruction Test. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was recruitable at Crystal Crossing and Final Maze. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Volcano Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Mt. Sorbet and the Dark Temple.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Hoenn series featured a trainer named Michelle who owned a Bagon that wanted to fly, and it was able to temporarily fly with use of a jetpack, evolving into Shelgon after a battle with Team Rocket. An episode of the Battle Frontier series also featured a different Bagon in the care of a Pokésitter named Matt that also wanted to fly, although it spent the majority of the episode recovering from a fever at the Pokémon Center. Bagon have also made minor appearances in other episodes.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Bagon has had a mostly minor presence and was among the Pokémon used by members of Team Magma during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia

  • Its name seems to be a combination of "baby" (due to it being a first stage Pokémon) with "dragon" (since that is its type and the creature it resembles).
