Luvdisc is a heart-shaped aquatic Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It has no evolutionary line.

Information

Luvdisc is a heart-shaped Pokémon that usually lives in shallow seas at the tropics. It is associated with love and romance because of its shape, and it earned its name by swimming after loving couples that it spotted in the ocean waves. It is said that a couple that found Luvdisc would be blessed with eternal love, and in some old customs Luvdisc are given as gifts to one's lover. They nest at the branches of Corsola. Countless Luvdisc congregate at coral reefs during spawning season, which turns the waters pink.

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Luvdisc could be found somewhat commonly by fishing with the Good or Super Rod at Route 128 and Ever Grande City. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they could be rarely fished with the Super Rod at Route 224 and the Pokémon League. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they could commonly appear when surfing at Route 27 during swarms. In Black and White, they could be rarely fished at Routes 4 and 13, Driftveil City, Undella Town and Undella Bay, and they appeared more commonly when fishing in rippling water.

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Luvdisc was found at the ocean. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Phobos Submarine, Endless Level 29, Forever Level 29 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the forty-fifth through fifty-fourth floors of Silver Trench and Far-off Sea. In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at Safra Sea. It was also recruitable in Explorers of Time and Darkness at Miracle Sea and Deep Miracle Sea. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Luvdisc was found at Coral Sea.

• In the Pokémon anime, Luvdisc was featured as part of Juan's team during the Hoenn series. One special episode also featured both Misty and her sister Daisy catching their own Luvdisc for a water ballet, and the two Luvdisc fell in love after a battle with Team Rocket. Luvdisc have also made several other minor appearances.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Luvdisc appeared during the Ruby/Sapphire arc as one of the main Pokémon in Wallace's team. This Luvdisc was usually left out of her Poké Ball and was entrusted with small tasks by Wallace.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of a play on "love" (due to its heart shape) with "discus" (which is the name of a type of fish that it resembles).
