Misdreavus is a wispy ghost Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It had no evolutionary line until it was shown to evolve into Mismagius in the fourth generation games.

Information

Misdreavus has a creepy, sobbing cry that it uses to frighten people. It apparently uses its red spheres to absorb the fear of others as nutrition. They are very mischievous creatures that scream and wail to startle people at night, and they also love to bite and yank on people's hair from behind, just for the satisfaction of seeing their shocked faces. During the daytime, Misdreavus sleeps in darkness.

It evolves into Mismagius when exposed to a Dusk Stone.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, they uncommonly appeared in Mt. Silver Cave at night. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they are also rarely found in the Cliff Cave and Route 47 at night, and they also appear at the Safari Zone's Forest area at all times of day. Misdreavus could also be caught at the Pokéwalker's White Lake course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

In LeafGreen, it was uncommonly found at Lost Cave. In Pearl, Misdreavus appeared at Eterna Forest and the Lost Tower at night. In Black and White, they were rarely found at the Abundant Shrine at all times of day.

Other Games

A Shadow Misdreavus could be snagged from Rider Vant at Pyrite Town in Pokémon Colosseum, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Channel, it appeared outside the Ruins of Truth during the day. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the thirteenth through nineteenth floors of Murky Cave and the first fifteen floors of Darknight Relic, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it was recruited at Sky Stairway and Final Maze. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, they appeared at Chroma Road. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at the Old Mansion and Light Temple. Misdreavus also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure where it could be befriended at the Haunted Zone and was also present at the Meeting Zone.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • In the Pokémon anime, a Misdreavus was first shown as one of Marina's Pokémon in one of the specials. During the Johto series, one episode featured a trainer whose only Pokémon was a Misdreavus that he used to hunt Entei. Another episode had a group of Misdreavus causing trouble at the Silver Conference because one of them was trapped under a tree, and they left peacefully after Gary helped them. Misdreavus have made several more appearances throughout the anime, such as belonging to an opponent in the Hoenn League and belonging to Dawn's rival Zoey during the Sinnoh episodes. The latter Misdreavus eventually evolved into Mismagius.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, it was introduced as one of Morty's strongest Pokémon during the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc.

Trivia

  • Its name is a play on "mischievous", most likely combined with "reave", "dread" or "dreary", all of which relate to it being a ghost in some way.
