Whirlipede is a wheel-shaped insect Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It is the middle stage of Venipede's evolutionary line, and its evolved form is Scolipede.

Information

Whirlipede evolves from Venipede at Level 22. This Pokémon has a hard shell that protects it and keeps it in the shape of a wheel. It usually remains motionless, but when attacked it will rotate at a high speed and crash into its opponent.

It evolves into Scolipede at Level 30.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Whirlipede was uncommonly found at Pinwheel Forest, but only in the dark patches of grass.

Other Games

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Scolipede appeared in the treetops at Sun-Dappled Bank and World Axle's second underground floor. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, it appeared at the Verdant Court in the Arbor Area and could be befriended by chasing it.

• In the Pokémon anime, Whirlipede was featured in one episode as one of Burgh's Pokémon. During his gym battle with Ash, it was ultimately defeated by Ash's Swadloon after it evolved from Sewaddle.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Whirlipede appeared during the Black/White arc where it was Burgh's main Pokémon. It usually rolled around following him outside of its Poké ball, and Burgh was able to use the Whirlipede to foil Team Plasma's charade at Black's suggestion. He used it during his gym battle with Black, stating that one advantage of Whirlipede was that its rapid spinning prevented others from predicting its attacks, but it lost easily to his Braviary.

• Its name is a combination "whirl" (in reference to its spiral shape) and "centipede" or "millipede".
