Victini is a special legendary Pokémon that is notable for having been assigned the number of "zero" in the Unova Pokédex due to its importance. It was introduced in Pokémon: Black and White Versions, but could only be obtained within the games using an item gained from a Nintendo event.
Information
Victini is a small Pokémon that is said to bring victory. A trainer with a Victini is said to always win, no matter what. This effect may be to the fact that it creates an unlimited amount of energy within its body, which it shares with those that touch it. Thus, the power which it radiates empowers other people. This has made Victini the object of Pokémon trainers throughout the world. Victini is also mentioned as having a "cruel fate", although this might be referring to the people who are always hounding it.
Within the backstory of Black/White, it was mentioned that a very rich family established Liberty Garden 200 years ago. This rich person hid Victini away from the world in an underground room. It is uncertain whether this was done for selfish and selfless reasons, as hiding Victini kept it away from those who would misuse it. During the time of Black and White, Team Plasma attacks Liberty Garden in an attempt to capture Victini. Hilbert/Hilda defeats them (as long as they were able to get to the island from Castelia City by using the Liberty Pass), and then either defeats or captures Victini. Professor Juniper then explained some of Victini's background and said that it was labeled as number "zero" in the Unova Pokédex in hopes that Victini's power to bring victory would be shared with a Pokédex holder.
Appearances
Mainstream Games
In Black and White, Victini could only be caught in Liberty Garden, which could only be reached if the player had the Liberty Pass that was distributed via Nintendo Wi-Fi.
Other Games
Victini appeared in Pokémon Rumble Blast, where it could be recruited at the Beginner's Park. It could also be unlocked to appear at the tower in World Axe's second basement floor by attracting 150 customers via SpotPass and at Sun-Dappled Bank's field with a password. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, it acted as a guide in the Crag Area until it was captured by Haxorus and taken to Wish Park. Once it was rescued through Haxorus's defeat, Victini stayed with Emboar at Rockridge Fort, where it could be battled and befriended.
Other Appearances
Other Media
- Victini was featured in the fifteenth movie of the Pokémon anime, where its storyline was the same in both versions. It was shown to serve the Kingdom of Vale in the past, but the kingdom deteriorated over the years, and Victini was confined to the area due to protective barriers. It became known as the guardian of Eindoak Town when it was eventually built there. Within the movie, Victini yearned to be free and eventually informed Ash of this after it befriended their group. Damon tried to control Victini over the course of the movie as part of a plot to revive Vale, but in the end Victini and Ash's group (with some help from Reshiram or Zekrom) destroyed the barriers. Victini spent some time playing with Ash's group before setting off on its own.
Trivia
- Its name seems to be a play on "victory", possibly combined with "teeny" or "tiny" due to its size.
- Victini is the first legitimate Pokémon to be identified as number zero in any Pokédex. The glitch Pokémon MissingNo. was originally shown as number zero in the first generation games, but it is not truly canon.
